Fog lights when there is no fog???

I tend to find there are two types of offender here:
1) Young girls who have no clue what all the buttons in their car do. They turn them on by accident and then they are always on
I was behind one the other day, when we got to traffic lights I managed to get her attention and she sheepishly turned them off.
2) Total ****'s usually chavs or middle aged men driving a bmw / audi. If they are behind me I just turn mine on
Most cars these days auto dim the rear view mirror so i don't care if they try to blind me

I've never been able to understand it either. I was stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway due to a collision, and had been stationary for about 10 mins. It had been slightly foggy driving up to where I stopped, but I turned off my fog lights when we were stopped, as I didn't see the necessity in having them on if we weren't moving anywhere. Then, the guy in the car next to me rolled down his window (I thought just to ask if I knew what had gone on) and yelled "can't you see its foggy, you need your fog lights on!". Absolute d***!
On the other hand, one of my friends came to pick me up from a gig, about 11pm, and had drove from our house to central Manchester with no lights on, and was wondering why people were flashing and beeping at her! God only knows how she managed to get that far without being pulled, or even managed to pass her driving test!0 -
Add to fog light, drivers who put on their hazards whilst being towed, YOU ARE BEING TOWED, YOU ARE MOVING, YOU ARE NOT STATIONARY!!
Very annoying.0 -

In some cases it is warranted, Around these parts the road is national speed limit single carriageway. This means that you could be driving at night at close to 60 (Or above), and not judge straight away that the car in front has something wrong with it or is moving fairly slowly!
When I come to power I'm going to introduce a new rule. When you are travelling at less than 30% of the speed limit you have to use hazards.0 -
I swear some of them think that having the fog lights on makes up for the fact one of their headlights does not work.
Another very prevalent thing at the moment that annoys my divits.
I turn my fog lights on when needed turn them off when not so even if I hit a clear patch in fog the lights go off petrol too expensive to keep them on!I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
I'm with fluffnutter in not having heard of rear foglights before. I don't drive so I'll claim this as my excuse! Are they to make you more visible to the vehicles behind you?0

Fog lights should be like tarts knickers - on/off, on/off, on/off. If you can see the lights of the car ahead of you in the mist then you don't need them. If you are in heavy traffic you don't need them. You should turn them on and off when you go in and out of patches of fog. If you do need them to look good or merely turn them on at the slightest wisp of mist then you are rather special. The man without a signature.0

I've also heard that in thick fog you should go down to sidelights (plus fog lights of course). This prevents your headlights merely bouncing back at you as they reflect off the fog and are no help at all in enabling you to see. Driving around with your car lit up like a Christmas tree is not de rigueur apparently, although some don't seem to have heard that message.

Whilst i generally agree with the sentiment here it should be pointed out that some daytime "running lights" now have a long life bulb in the same unit as the front fog lights.
So in some cases the person might not have the option to do much about it.
Anyone driving about in the dark with them on to look cool is just a t!t.
Dodgy HID conversions and people who don't bother to replace failed bulbs are, IMHO, worse though.0
