I know speaking to an Indian Callcentre isn't ideal, but for you to be able to get this fault rectified you're going to have to speak to them, because unless the BT rep pops along soon, no-one here can help you.

I would now write to them, recorded post, with an official complaint. Detail every occasion that you have rung them and what was said. State exactly what you are complaining about (fact that number changed or bad customer service, or both) and then say what you want, ie your number back to normal. Also ask for a copy of their complaints procedure so that you know when/how to escalate the complaint.

It helps if you send the letter somewhere high up, like their Chief Exec or someone.

I have used their webmail form to point them in the direction of this thread.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi callas,

I have just picked up your email so I'll send you a reply with a few more details shortly.

I just wanted to say that a fault was opened last night and it's now with the engineers, I'll see if I can find any more info out on this and email you back.

    Thanks,

    Stephanie

An update for those who haven't dropped off the perch with boredom!

At 10pm last night we were rung by someone whose telephone number we have - rather annoyed. So thank you Spike you were correct it seems.

This morning at 10am we were rung by BT asking to speak to the person (I won't disclose their name) who should have this number, BT seem unaware of any of the problems or of the already logged compliants. We explained yet again the situation and yet again BT have gone off to look at the records.

Then followed by another call - this time says an engineer is working on it. It seems the calls are from their Indian call centre and she can't tell us anything. We ask what is happening to our calls and messages, she can't say. We ask her to ask the enginner to contact us or anyone from BT UK - they are apparently unable to contact the UK or to get any messages to them. We tell her we are very unhappy and would like to speak to someone at customer services, we are told she can only offer to pass it to her manager and for him to ring us.

I am still waiting for the manager yesterday morning to ring me!!!!

Strange that when it suits BT are very particular about Data protection but not in this case.

Also odd that even though everything is logged onto a computer so that everyone can access it - no one at BT seems to be able to do this instantly.
