iPhone 3G lost/stollen?

I was out last night and lost my 3G iPhone, I phoned the carrier and its now blocked, It will be covered by my house insurance as I have cover for out and about theft and accidental damage, but I don't think they make the 3G anymore, what way does this work? My insurer isn't open until tomorrow morning so can't find out, will I have any trouble filling a claim?

First of all you need to make sure you get your story very straight to ensure your insurance company don't try to find a way to get out of paying the claim.

Does your insurance company have a new for old policy? You may find that you get given cash or vouchers to the equivalent value.

I agree with corbyboy in that you say you 'lost' your phone and yet state your insurance covers 'theft and accidental damage' . So if you are covered for theft did you report it to the police and have you got a crime number?

Right I am just back from the Police station, I explained what happened and got a crime reference number, the Police man never said if it was put down as lost or stolen, Its hard to know really, was in my back pocket, it wasn't there when I went out, I went back into check but it was gone so I guess it must of fell out of my pocket and someones had it so it that case it would be stolen.

No, losing something is not the same as having it stolen so be very careful. From experience of having sons who used to keep phones in their back pocket I know how easy it is for a phone to fall out of their pocket and get 'lost' down the back of a soft seat in a bar or restaurant.

You even imply you lost and it's a straight case of claim denied.

As the others have said, be really careful what you say when you call them.

My 3GS was stolen in a restaurant last year. My insurance company said they cannot provide iPhones. I had to get a quote for a replacement and send them prooof that I had an iPhone. Within 3 days there was a cheque on its way to me. I went to O2 and bought a PAYG. If you had a cover on your phone, remember to claim for that too.

The nearest replacement you will now be able to buy is a 3gs 8gig. If your insurance co do as mine did you will then be able to use the money to buy whichever replacement you want.

But, as others have said. Get your story straight. It was stolen out of your pocket

If lost, they will usually cite carelessness as a reason to deny the claim, but as each claim is based on the individual circumstances (have you lose one in similar circumstances before?) they may be sympathetic.

As for the phone not being made, it doesn't matter. You'd be getting a refurb (a 'factory refreshed' model) not a new boxed replacement, so that problem will not arise.

I am getting a 3GS, well I'm getting a cheque. They have accepted the claim but don't know much else yet

Well this has turned into a hash. Wednesday I got my phone back, I was in the same pub I lost the phone in and asked behind the counter, they had several phones of which mine was one of them, but its useless now as it seems to be blocked, it doesn't get a signal. I phoned Orange who tell me they can't unblock it either.

As for the insurance I received a letter stating they rejected my claim. Apparently I didn't register the phone with them, No one told me this?? When I took out the cover I specifically asked for insurance that would cover my iPhone, laptop etc away from the home, I was told I was covered. I was not told I needed to do anything else, and looking through the documents I can't see anything to state any different, and I was told the claim would be accepted.

    What can I do???

Don't know what trainee you spoke to at Orange (mind you, being a Sunday there's almost no one in).

Yes, they can unblock it. Tell them you lost your phone and it's now been found. They'll remove the IMEI from the blacklist and (after an hour or so) your phone will started to work again.

You might have better luck on a weekday, as I said above, there are very few staff in over the weekends (and even fewer team leaders) so Monday morning could get you further.
