yes according to geek son
you must hoover out your tower on a regular basis
clear cookies every day even twice a day and defrag every day or at least 3 times a week
to keep the puter in optimum condidtion
now if only he felt like that about his mum0 -
not sure i'd want my kids hoovering me, a defrag mite help tho!!!0
-
Does everyone defrag and de-cookie every day then???♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0
-
they do in this house doesnt take a second to start it off and you can carry on using the puter while its doing it
cookies are important to clear daily as spyware etc can track you by them
I used to think that if you were de fragging that was the puter out of use but it isnt so I just click on the defragg on my desktop and carry on
it only takes about 5 mins if you do it daily as opposed to hours if you do it infrequently0 -
Righty-ho...have to try doing it daily then. Has been taking about an hour doing it on weekly basis. When it's running in the background it seems to slow everything else down, (or is it my imagination?).
Thanks for that....and all I was worried about was the state of my keyboard! :-/♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
HOLD THE PHONE
seems I cant carry out the simplest of instructions
I emailed him and he replied
You need to defrag you hard drives at least one a week. This will help keep the file structure tidy and greatly help to keep your pc running fast and smooth. symptoms of a heavily fragmented hard drive are : slow to open any application, navigating through windows is very slow and laggy, trying to open up a hard drive, say C: takes a lot longer. after a good defrag (I recommend O&O Defrag 6) you will notice vast improvement in all of these area's.
Deleting cookies is really a security measure, every web site you visit leave behind markers on your pc that can be read at a later date, now most of these are harmless and help you surfing the internet, a small few are malicious, so I suggest deleting them daily but at least weekly, also visit https://www.microsoft.com and download WindowsXP Service Pack 2. This is a great windows update that provides a lot more security than windows has enabled by default. Also keep an update Antivirus and firewall running and you don't really have to worry to much about cookies. Unless you have visited web sites that you do not wish others to know about then delete your cookies, internet history files and temp files :-)
And hoovering you case keeps it clean and dust free (P.s. don't use a hoover though...very bad for static and has killed pc's before) Use a soft natural fibre brush and remove all dust. Dust also helps generate heat and short out components.
Hope this helps

I drop the temp files and cookies each day ::)
but the rest I leave to the 'expert' ;D0 -
Thanks Cathy (and son!) for going to all that trouble. Not sure that I dare open up the tower tho...it would feel a bit like performing major surgery...seem to remember reading somewhere you are supposed to wear an anti-static wristband when you go poking about inside the things....... ::)♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0

my son has dropped juice all over the keyboard and now it won't work at all!!! HELP!!!0

Is there a quick and easy way of deleting cookies?
As for the juice, just stand the keyboard up on end for all the juice to drain out. Had a mobile phone ondce that got gravy in it, drained it out and it worled again.
New keyboards are cheap, ive seen them in the pound shop!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
