How do you know it is not illegal?

How do you know it is? Just because you don't like something doesn't make it against the law.

You should have paid by Visa Electron then you wouldn't have been involved with such illegal activities.

How do you know it is not illegal? The cost of the charge is way out of proportion to the actual cost. I wouldn't be surprised if the EU investigates this if enough complaints are made - I just don't know the appropriate body however.

There's nothing illegal about companies charging higher prices.

Perhaps you might want to consider that we live in a free market, and as such, prices are set by the market, not by the government.

As always, it's a RIPOFF SCAM EXTORTIONATE FRAUD when it's against you and a loophole when it's for you.

Tell me - when you find a way to avoid paying for something, do you think it's illegal, too?

    Besides, they are 100% optional
No, they're not. The only way to avoid the charges with Flybe is to use Visa Electron, which many people do not have and which their bank does not even issue any more. How is that "100% optional"?

Of course there is. If the price charged is higher than the price advertised, then it is a misleading indication of price, a criminal offence under Section 20 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987.

People have a 100% option to open an account with a bank that does provide an electron card

That's a matter of advertising law, not pricing.

I suspect another bank charges fiasco emerging here - a ruling that the fees cannot be considered in isolation but only in relation to the overall package.

I think the Which? complaint has a good chance of success and that the OFT should have acted before. All quoted prices should include one form of payment which is widely available and does not itself levy charges and for flights at least one method of checking-in.

But why should my fares go up as a result to subsidise those incapable of getting the free payment method?

No, it is unreasonable to expect a consumer to open a new additional bank account for the sole purpose of paying for one flight booking. Furthermore, many people will book and pay for a flight outside banking hours when it is impossible to open a bank account. In any case by the time they receive the Visa Electron card, the fare will most likely have gone up by more than the non-Electron card surcharge. Therefore it is not an option, but an unduly onerous hurdle. I am amazed you even suggested such a thing.

It isn't though, is it? All because a few journalists have jumped on the bandwagon, that does not mean that most agree. Indeed, all it really means is that it makes for sensationalist journalism.

How did you find that out?

Because anyone can still get a visa electron if they choose. I really don't understand how you can deny that.
