Hi
I bought a tumble dryer from Currys 12.02 and today it appears the motor has broke making it not fit for purpose as far as im concerned. I rang up currys expecting to be able to take it back for a new one as after 6 weeks it shouldnt break at all to be told that the manufacturers would come and repair it???? I thought under the sale of goods act that the retailer was responsible and not the manufacturer. They then started saying that by law i only had 21 days to return the product... i thought it was longer than that
Please can anyone advise if i am entitled to an exchange as im not prepared to have it repaired and potentially keep breaking again
Thanks in advance

Yes, the retailer is responsible.
Of course they, or you, can get the manufacturer involved.
Don't know where that 21 days comes from.
No you are not entitled to an exchange.
You are however, entitled to ask the retailer for a remedy, which could be a repair, replacement or (partial) refund.
The retailer in return can refuse your choice if it's disproportionate. (too costly).0 -
As far as I understand it the retailer has the choice of repairing or exchanging the item so I don't think you can demand what happens.
However if the motor has gone then it might be deemed uneconomical to repair and you will get your replacement anyway.2014 Target;

Thanks - am just quite miffed that a dryer can break so quickly and im left with only a repair, ive exchanged things of far less value with no problems whatsoever, i just thought this would be the same - guess not!:mad:0

Exactly, things of lesser value are not so costly to replace compared to repairingSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Yes but i wouldnt expect something that cost over £300 to break within a 6 week period thats my point, surely its classed as not fit for purpose ive had a telly recently that broke within a year or purchase it was used as a spare and had that exchanged no problem so i dont really understand why within 6 weeks im expected to wait for a repair....0

With your luck, retailers better beware0

As your machine is so new, with a new motor it will be as good as new again, won't it?
Why are you miffed?
Anyway, we are not Currys*.
They will decide, not us.

If you bought a car, and the engine 'broke' under warranty, would you expect them to replace the whole car? I think not.
New motor = good as new.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
