Hi guys,
Sorry for all the hassle this week with the mutterings - in the long run streaming will make everything easier, but these problems currently are frustrating.
Hopefully the links in the email should now be working, if you could let us know that would be great. thanks for all your patience and help in this thread
Cheers

If you have a recent version of Windows Media Player it should open the m3u file and then go off and fetch the appropriate file to stream.
Although the fact that you can listen to the dialup stream for 2 seconds suggests that it's handling that part OK.
I'm afraid the problem lies somewhere at your end, now that they've fixed all the links both the broadband and dialup streams work fine for me so the MSE servers and links etc. are obviously working OK.
I can only think that maybe you have a very slow connection or some of the settings you have in Windows Media Player etc. mean that the stream isn't playing properly?
Have you tried using an alternative program like RealPlayer or iTunes?student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -
there is only one program worthy of media playback - no extras, no failures, no excuses, no intrusion, no huge cpu usage
http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php
get the winamp lite version and off you go
p.s. programmes like itunes, real player and so forth may be hard to shake off, they keep re-registering their file types.
p.p.s. this is not a MSE official recommendation as to what player you should use, just my own.
p.p.p.s. a good resource for streaming audio/online radio etc is https://www.shoutcast.com. read their FAQs also.

Indeed. And as noted, you don't need a recent Media Player - any ancient or recent version of Winamp will do.0 -

I have Windows Media player 10, a 1 Meg Broadband connection and all of my other streams - e.g.BBC radio - are working as normal. I have tried realplayer and that does not work either - just the same 2 seconds for dialup and straightaway a "General Error" occurs, ceasing playback for broadband. If it's just me experiencing this, then I'll just carry on downloading it and just forget about streaming it...0 -
I've just downloaded Winamp and clicked the broadband link. It worked, but it cheated! It downloaded the mutterings and THEN played it! I'm sorry, but that isn't streaming!0
