hi,
i just rang orange and got my pac code as im going to three.
the guy asked why i was leaving, then offered me various deals etc.

i have an iphone sim only tarrff @ £25 per month, and the guy kept on going on about me needing an iphone specific add on bundle at an extra £10 per month "because a normal data bundle would be no good in an iphone"
because iphones use more data etc, he said they gobble it up faster than other phones.
im only using between 200 and 300mb per month at present.
is this iphone bundle a con????????? will i use more data on three than on an iphone bundle with orange?

is this true or false?? hope ive explained it ok lol, sorry.
anyway im still going to try three for a month.

ITs not a con in so much that it gives you more data however data is not iPhone specific and selling it as such is a bit misleading. If you're only using 300MB on it now you'd still only use 300MB on 3 unless your usage pattern changed.

So in short, there is no such thing as iPhone specific data.

to be honest it does not really offer me more data as i only get 500mb per month with the iphone tariff from orange.
where as three offer 1gb per month should i ever use that amount. thanks for replying.
i just want a cheaper tariff, im only using say 250 mins, 500 texts and 300mb. three do a 30 day rolling deal for £15 per month which will do me fine i think. also if i am happy i can commit to 12 months and get it for £10 per month.

I find my iPhone 3GS (even contacted to my wifi) in a morning when I check it it's showing a 3G connection rather than wifi, than a second or two later the wifi kicks in on it. Not sure if all iPhone disconnect from the wifi when in sleep mode (turned on but screen blank) or it's just me, my wifi etc.

So my phone does use more data than it needs, they tend to check for emails etc every so often; but when I say more I'm talking a few Kb's each (about 50kb), so a Mb over a month nothing to think twice about.

So like Hammyman says, what you use is what you use, doesn't matter what network you're on, if you used 200/300Mb on Orange it should be the same on 3 (if you use it the same).

I don't have an iPhone tariff, I was with O2 and switch to T-Mobile before Xmas when they did that 12 month sim only deal for £7.50 (600 mins, 500 text, 3GB data and a free booster, which for me was Unlimited Landline Calls) and I only use a fraction of that a tenth at most, but it was by the far the cheapest deal I've seen and the coverage for me is far better than O2's. So I'm a happy man all ways around.

    Edit:

I think I read somewhere that Networks can tell if the Data is being used by an iPhone / iPad, I think Apple Products Package the Data or has some form of Marker on it; how or why I don't know, so I guess Networks are just trying to cash in more by selling extra Bundles. But a Mb of Data is a Mb of Data regardless of whether it's being used on an iPhone, Dongle or other Phone. So it's a Con. T-Mobile hasn't got an issues with me and I was upfront about using the sim in an iPhone, the only question asked was will I require a Micro Sim.... Which I didn't, so don't know if that would of made a difference, but I'd cut a standard one down before paying extra for a Micro Sim.

Also aren't Orange doing a PAYG iPhone Sim with free Data and BT Openzone Wifi for 12 Months?

Hey there, iPhones do have specific data plans but the only advantage they have over a regular plan (usually) is they let you use the visual voicemail which is iPhone specific

So if your not fussed about that... Makes no odds what so ever :p

And in regards to iPhones using more data than another phone, tosh

If a web page is 1mb to download that's what it is, regardless of handset...

So go with three if that's the best deal for you and they give good coverage :)

You might be able to get cheaper deals than that '3' £15 30 day Rolling contract.

Tesco were doing a 30 day rolling contract for £10

There's also GiffGaff, but thing there free data has or is ending soon

Have a good scout around before going with '3'. I'm not saying it's bad, but there has been better, just a case of looking to see if any are still around.

3 and T-Mobile are partners in there 3G Network, so the coverage should be the same (Virgin, also use T-Mobile Network).

Now Orange and T-Mobile have joined together they are sharing each others 2G Network (you sign up for free to join and you're changed just as you would if using you're own network) and there are planning to start to share 3G networks which will be even better, but I've not heard if 3 is included, I'd guess not.
