Try using bicarb and vinegar for cleaning plug holes, sprinkle a bit of bicarb in then add some vinegar - brown or white it doesn't matter. The vinegar makes it all fizz up like mad and it clears it all lots better than soda crystals.
Carly - I bet you'll find wash powder gets the shelves clean, you just have to leave then soaking in it for a long while (I am speaking from experience here, mine were filthy)

Can anyone reccomend a good way of cleaning oven shelves. I have go the oven itself clean and have put the shelves into the dishwasher, but apart from removing the grease, they are still badly stained.
Thanks alot0 -
Hiya
I've added your question onto an earlier thread which I'm sure will help you. You'll need to read from the beginning to catch up

Ditto: Washing powder. Pour into the bath of very hot water. Lay the shelves in there and leave overnight. Loosens all the grime and makes it far easier to scrub off the remains.
I did this last week and am so pleased that it worked! I had tried the dishwasher, even several times, but that got me nowhere. Never thought of using the bath to soak them in..... how wonderful! I will do this regularly now and never get them into such a state again. Your tips and solutions make my day again and again..... thanks to all!"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
Our oven shelves were badly stained and before Christmas OH had a go with paste of bicarbonate of soda ( breadsoda if you're Irish), left it for a while and then used a new paint scraper to take paste and dirt off...didn't think oven could be so clean. The caustic soda idea will also work but necessary to be very careful

I use Ammonia. Put the shelves (and Pyrex dishes if they are grubby in the ridges round the top) into a black plastic bag. Put a small rag with a few drops of ammonia on it into the bag and tie the bag up. Put outside overnight and in the morning the muck rinses off with warm water. I then make sure I give everything a good soapy wash to remove any trace of ammonia. A toothbrush works on the difficult to get at bits and the rims of the Pyrex! I do use rubber gloves for the soak and removal from the bag bits.0

i must say i am so lazy when it comes to the oven shelf's. i put them in the dishwasher on a really hot wash. then when they come out if it hasn't got it all off i find it really easy to wipe off.
i prob do this every couple months to keep on top of it.
also i can't stand the smell of any oven cleaners they always seem to make me gag.0 -
I have just done mine. In the bath, hot soapy water for an hour or two. Use a scourer to clean off grease, comes off easily. I used to leave them overnight but the water gets cold and they are harder to clean. I might get one of those trays from LAKELAND in future.0

My mum bought me some little metal pads.. abit like scouring pads but without the soap inside. They are fantastic. They came in a set of 12 round ones with a handle and a flat pad one. For £1. Gets all the burnt bits off shelves and it doesnt scratch them or hurt your hands.
Far safer than harsh chemicals and no soaking.
Used them to clean my grill pan too, with the same resultsfurrypig says:my name is Choccy and I am addicted to nose free stamps as I want to save them all and give them noses!!!:rotfl:
About me. Im Choccy or Chocolate orange depending on where i am.Yes occasionally i am a total looon who spends too long online, but no where near as much £ as her spendy elves do ..:D0 -
In the bath overnight with bio washing powder and then scrub with a metal scourer. I like the dishwasher idea.0
