The bath and bio soap powder in very hot water worked great for me - as recommended by Kim and Aggie on HCIYH.

Mine were really bad :o so left them overnight. Little bit of scrubbing needed where the 'across bits meet the side bits' but that was all. AND they are still gleaming cos now I do it regularly  .

I've used Oven Pride in the past and didn't find that it got all the bits off and my shelves weren't actually that bad to be honest as I like to keep them shining whenever possible.

I think I'll try the bath and bio suggestion, sounds really good.

    Thanks

For anybody trying the 'bio in the bath' method - it may be worthwhile pointing out that if you are particular about your bath (ie not wanting to scratch it with the metal shelves) it may be an idea to put a couple of old teatowels in the bottom of the bath before putting the shelves in
  • i only have non bio, would this work?

    (whats the difference ?)

I think it needs to be biological - something to do with the enzymes that eat away the grease and gunk.

I also use the dishwasher - on hottest setting it is good and what does not come off just wipes off when still hot from machine - then do them once a week with the normal dishwashing lot

Be careful with the oven pride.
i followed the instrustions to the letter and it stripped off the stainless steel coating on my grill tray. i was not best pleased i can tell you.

went to sainsburys and picked up a box of the own brand bio pwder for 50p, but some int he bath with hot water, added oven racks, 1/2hr later went to check and the gunk is floating round the bath, gave them a quick scrub with and old pot brush and i could see the metal underneath, and it was shiny!

gonna leave them a bit longer then give them a proper scrub, im guessing the old tenants never cleaned them, wish id cheked this out a few months ago when we moved in

please does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to clean the racks in the oven? I have left it quite a while between cleans and am finding it difficult to get the racks clean. Any tips appreciated. Thanks
