  • so if a parent dies moving on and remarrying is acceptable?

but if a partner is abusive its not ok to move on?

or a partner leaves you because they dont have the maturity to live an adult life?

or simply you fall out of love and like with a partner?

being a single parent is hard, my mum did it for a number of years before meeting my stepfather. she was a single parent because my fathers violence escalated to the point of nearly killing her more than once. she left him when i was 9. when i was 12 my stepfather moved in, hes a kind caring man and one im proud to call dad. my mum is disabled and was unable to have more children after me but if she had been then surely you wouldnt begrudge her that happiness?

What im trying to point out is there are dozens of reasons for single parents and dozens of reasons for step-parents to be around. just because one relationship does not work does not mean that person should spend the rest of their life in solitude.

oh for the record im a married student, my husband is a student but works hard to support us as we both feel it is important to have a parent at home for a childs early years. it was a joint decision that he would work and from next year (once our second child is born) i will more than likely be the one working. And yes at times he drives me nuts and i whinge about him, just the same as he whinges about me. How dare people judge someone as lazy/immoral etc from just a few lines of text on an open web forum where more than likely the whole story hasnt been posted.

achtunglady (i think) i do hope you and your dh/dp can sort things out. why not take a few days to stay with friends and leave him to fend for himself with the kids, may make all the difference

You have insulted single women and women in general on this thread. Typically, you can't take someone standing up to you in return.

42 isn't old nor a youngster either. It is an age where you should have more understanding and wisdom.

I am not going to carry this on any further as your intention seems to be hurtful to people on here.

It is Christmas I refuse to get involved in a sad argument with someone who has anger issues.

    Merry Christmas

yes but its the peeps who won't work that you should be having a pop at. not all single mothers are unemployed. its narrow minded to tar everyone with the same brush. we become lone parents for all sorts of reasons. in my case my ex was abusive, controlling, paranoid and lived in the dark ages. the best thingi did was walk away from him. if i'd stayed we'd be secure but i would have gone crazy or turned into a timid person.

you should think about what you say before you post. its annoying when people come across as "i am better than you".

yes you lose that right when you split and you have to work but its bloody annoying when the ex can live the life of luxury with no responsiblity while i have to do ALL the hard work. its not easy being a mum employed or not!
    I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D

I agree that the bludgers need a wake up call but I feel you have hit a nerve with some of the single parents on here.

I have been a single parent that has had financial support whilst my husband worked away and it is very difficult. I truly admire people who manage to work and keep a family together by themselves.

We have also been unemployed after working for 25 years, paying our taxes and it was horrendous. Not a day went by that both of us were looking for work.

Thankfully we are working and things are OK but it is very worrying and you get very little back when you need it.
