The local library is being squeezed. Funding for staff has been cut ( inspite of apparent £60,000,000 underspend by county council . There's an appeal for volunteers to help run it & keep it open, so I'm going to offer my services.
So's mine  - am signed up to all the local support groups and Facebook pages and the Bookseller Fight for Libraries campaign :rotfl:. And also volunteering to help out with time if necessary - quite like the idea always thought would meet loads of interesting people working in the library and never tried it yet.
Re. meet-up dig out your FOIF hat anyway in preparation for next event
Rosa xxDebt free May 2016... DFW#2 in progress
Campervan paid off summer '21... MFW progress tbc0 -
Crumbs cherisong - no pressure then
I know exactly what you mean by trying before buying though; I always read the first page, even when getting books out of the library.
I'm puffing away like an old hag at the moment, thanks to moo2moo, I've just been jogging around the wii island & I'm a bit unfit. I did need to work off that 3rd & final crunchie ice cream though .
That's it now, they're all gone & I can resume healthy eating plan with no distractions. My only treat from now on is fat free vanilla yoghurt.
I've been very good this afternoon; clearing out clothes, bags, shoes, books & other stuff. DD helped with the shoes, mostly herself by trying them on & trying hard to secrete them away into her room. I wore the glossy red ones whilst hoovering ( A trick I learned from Shoe Gal) & have concluded that for some inexplicable reason, after wearing them for half an hour they suddenly start to cause intense & agonising pain. It's a mystery & I cant work it out but frankly no longer care, they are going.
The pink satin heels I wore to a wedding about 6 years ago are also going. DD reckons they make my feet look really long & I only kept them because they accessorized the dress I wore. I've worn them twice since so bye bye.
The bizarre arabian princess style beaded numbers are also going. They are most unusual & I have no idea whatsoever as to why I even have them, all I know is that they came from TKMaxx which was the scene of many of my CC crimes.
I now recognise that 4 pairs from my frantic Faith buying episode last year, dont fit. I love them, yes. I wear them, no. They need to go, I'm almost ready to let go, almost.
Still the search for the perfect black bag goes on. I've bought 2 in the last year & neither is perfect so why do I still have them ? I think so then I dont have to admit to wasting money.
I had lots of letters today, a rent statement, yet another letter urging me to switch to paying by direct debit, a letter confirming piano lessons & an end of year statement from the ISA. I need to switch that now; the rate drops some time & I dont know when so I might as well get on with it. I also had a bank statement & the shiny new CC is showing up on the internet banking, but still no pin number.
Wont be going shopping tomorrow then, so will just get on with domestic type things & then visit rellie in the afternoon. I've now discovered there are engineering works on the tube line we'll use for the concert on tuesday, so I'm considering driving .
The leeks have all sprouted & we now have 25. I want to be in the garden, but the house needs attention first. There is so much stuff to get rid of it's overwhelming. Best get the washing in off the line & then continue.
Ugh I hate clutter & the feeling of having to keep stuff because someone else gave it as a gift. I still cant get the stupid phone & laptop to connect. It annoys me because it's fine when I take it to work & then refuses to cooperate when I get home . It's preventing my foray into ebaying. Might just buy a camera when CC pin number arrives & be done with it.

Hi Rosa,
was so busy ranting there that I missed your post. I agree about meeting interesting people too0 -
One of my friends has been to meetup events in her area. She was hoping to meet some local friends in her part of London and it was reasonably successful.
She said the worst part was having to introduce yourself over and over again.
But she met some nice people and a few she is still in touch with and meets up and does things with. Some were a bit dull and she didn't really click with but nothing horrible happened. I'm pretty certain she didn't meet any swingers or psychos although you've inspired me to ask!!!
I think you are more likely to be bored than threatened / held hostage / invited to join in with unsavoury practices.....
You're so good about getting rid of old shoes and bags, I hang onto them for ages and ages although I've been good recently about buying new ones. Very restrained!!!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0 -
that decluttering seems to be going really well and I sure know the feeling of being overwhelmed by it all as I feel the same way...theres so much to do don't know where to start..sigh.
Am sure you'll be ok meeting up with the people...0 -
hope your move is going well ?
'Lo! Yes, good ta - am in Cardiff at the moment, packing for the final phase of the move next weekend. As you can see, packing mainly involves reading and replying to posts on your diary.Re fun guy at work - I didnt word that very well, what I actually meant was that the fact he is emigrating is inspirational.
Ah yes, I misread it; in my defence I had been enjoying the company of our mutual friend Gordon at the time. Interesting what you say; I've realised in the last couple of years that all I need is a phone, a laptop, a bag of clothes and some interesting people to spend time with. I do still have many more possessions than that, hence the big move, but the time it's taking to pack everything up just further illustrates how much 'stuff' can tie us down and hold us back. I reckon life's about people, freedom and enjoyment, not material thingies - and I found that this picture I saw the other day struck a chord:.0 -
that is such an excellent post Dan - the quote is very true me thinks.
xxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Am loving that post Dan and love the quote0

Good, glad you have your priorities in order

Thanks for taking care of Gordon - I've neglected him somewhat recently.

This ^ was my argument when trying to convince DD that we should just sell everything, buy a camper van & go travelling now. She didnt believe that that's pretty much all we'd need. Her main concerns were music, tv, films & contact with friends - all covered by laptop, ipod & mobile. Books were her next concern so I even offered up a kindle & whatever she wanted to download on to it. She's not budging, the girl wants to go to school

Same as that :j
and I found that this picture I saw the other day struck a chord:
Thank you :A0 -
Lula, i thoroughly agree with you
I want a camper van as well- unfortunately it comes under the *desire* category
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0
