Progress regarding my contract is that I did manage to renegotiate a new offer which i was very pleased with and I got a much better phone HTC Wildfire, 400 cross-network minutes, 300 texts. I didn't need all those minutes before and the phone was free £16 per-month (24 month contract). I admit I did rush into the £25 deal but I didn't realise the total cost until later.
For the people who commented take a look at Martin Lewis comments about getting a better deal, because when you get through to retentions they just don't want to let you go their job is to keep you at whatever cost.

I assume you got a data bundle on the Wildfire, if not that can add up quickly..

The Optimus is £390 Sim Free The Wildfire £210.

24 months at £22 is £528 so you paying £138 for the two years service with the Optimus.

24 months at £16 is £384 so thats £174 for the two years service with the Wildfire.

If you look at it in pure monthly cost it's better, but overall you have a lower spec (slower processor, lower screen resolution) phone and paying more for less minutes and texts overall when you consider the phone cost.

Which ever way you want to look at it, at least I have managed to save on my monthly tariff and I did get a 500 mb data bundle and 25 free photo messages each month for 2 years. The Wildfire is a pretty decent phone and there is good feedback from the GSM website.

Finally i am happy to save money which whether you like it or not is the "name of the game", I have saved about £200.

Not knocking your better deal, it's the way you went about it that p****d people off.

You may be under the impression that it's how you did it that got you the deal. Not so. You could have done it without going down the route you did. Example:-

I had a £15 per month deal with Orange that would have ended this month and rang up to cancel because contract was coming to an end and reception in my house was poor.

    Retentions offered me the following.

Optimus 1 with UMA to solve the reception issue, 400 mins, unlimited landline calls, 300 texts and 500mb all for £10 per month, but I paid £22 towards the handset.

I am more than satisfied with the Optimus and, compared with your £16 per month deal, I am still
£6 x 24 = £144 ( less the £22 for the handset) i.e. £122 net better off over the 24 months, plus unlimited landline calls. And all without wasting anyone's time or "calling their bluff".

Why not try speaking to retentions first next time? You might even do better.

You've saved NOTHING. All you did was end up with the phone and contract you should have taken in the first place lol

PAYG phones are subsidised to some extent, I used Expansys sim free prices so it was a level playing field.
