Yes, 3% was paid on the anniversary of opening (well next day online), and the next day the gross rate was shown as 0.15%, so opened an Online Saver straight away, and transferred in for new 2.8%.

    Tenth Anniversary
I tried to open an Online Saver online, but got an error message saying I needed to call them. Did that, but can't make it a joint account (as other half wasn't here) until they send out a form and it will take 5 days from receipt before they can update it.

Also be aware that you cannot make transfers from the Online Saver for 7 days "as there has been a change to the account". No-one told me that when I opened it.

I was intending transferring what was in the Web Saver Reward, but cannot do that as the Online Saver isn't joint yet so the OH wouldn't qualify for the prize draw. Funds now sitting in the Web Saver Reward making diddly squat until I can get it transferred over.

I tried to open an Online Saver in joint names but it can`t be done online anymore.
You have to open an account in your own name and fill in a load of forms and take them to your local branch to make it a joint account.
This current online saver also carries a bonus rate which expires in a year and you`re back to the same problem of switching yet again.

I decided to switch to Virgin money easy access paying 2.85% and no bonuses attached, just a straight rate.
You can send faster payments to and from VM to the Halifax current account.
So because the Halifax has made it difficult to open a joint account, it`s lost the money to VM.

I suspect this sort of thing will be happening a lot.
People bank online for 2 main reasons - better rates and convenience.
Halifax rates are generally poor now when compared to those elsewhere, and convenience has taken giant strides backwards (particularly since the 'streamlining' with the Lloyds systems).

Conversely, I opened a new (non-joint) Online Saver with two clicks and was very impressed that you do not need to fill out a full application form any more.

I cannot see how they could have made it any easier to transfer over (save offering the bonus for a second year without the need to switch).

Hopefully you will be eventually be able to close your Online Saver as easily (as you used to be able to do with online accounts), rather than having to write in to ask them to do it for you - and risk them closing the wrong account ... :(

Is it possible to redesignate your expiring Online Saver to the new one (ie keeping the same account no)? Save a bit of hassle all round. It's possible to do this with their Online ISA.

Maybe this would also get round their stupid not being able to open joint accounts online any longer - Halifax's online banking keeps steadily going backwards.

That's another frustration. You used to be able to close accounts with a click of a button. I've now several redundant accounts hanging about, which i don't particularly like. Have rung them up to close them but they are still on Online banking.

Halifax just don't grasp the concept of banking online. It's always ring up or come into a branch to do a lot of straightforward things. There's no way to secure message them like most other half decent online banks have......
Defeats the object really. (presumably it'll be a marketing ploy so they can try and flog you other rubbish products)

When the rates are as low as 2.8% there shouldn`t be a 2.7% 1 year bonus on it reverting to 0.10% on the anniversary.
