It's just getting plain ridiculous - went for some tuna and it had gone up 16p in a week - that's way above inflation. Think they're sticking "silly" amounts on things they think people won't notice so they can leave other things alone.

I really wish they'd stop BOGOFs on fresh produce - what is a single person / couple of pensioners / single mother with one child etc supposed to do with 2 packs fresh fruit before it goes off.

Why can't they just make the packs 1/2 price so everyone can benefit from them - no wonder so much food is wasted in this country!

    Hello there!!

Wow I was expecting loads of pages to catch up on but there was only two!

So I am searching for ideas on how to make a bit of money.I was wondering about selling my cakes at work - but I am wondering if that is a bit cheeky!! as up until now I have been baking them all for free.

I am also struggling to not drink cans of coke!!!! us buying bottled drink like that when we are out has crept back and we are spending loads.I told hubby thats it no more but i keep buying myself some while i am at work. So i need to start cutting down - tried going cold turkey but it didnt work.

Right so my goals for this month is save save save!!!!!!!!!! Things are very tight at minute (again) £1000 spent on vets bills and new laptop. So we must be good!!! So I am going to go round house tonight and work out whats what, thats if i dont nod off first. And I really must do a car boot!!! but i work all weekend!!! I seem to work all the time.

Need to revise my budget also.I have worked out that each month we only have £200 left out of our wages for the month for food and petrol and our petrol is £400 a month so we are not doing well at all.

Anyway I now have to make a carrot cake for my father in law.So I better get cooking!

Catch up with you all later
Frugal living challenge - need to revisit its been.a while !! Need to reduce our debts!!

Couldn't agree more with this one. There's only myself and Mr Fresian, and when fresh things are on BOGOF they're no use to us. He doesn't like a lot of the same fresh veg as I do and vice versa! I would be happier with half price too - surely an offer like that would entice more people too?

I totally agree with you on this one. I also buy a lot of the own brand items and they seem to be increasing a lot recently. A good example of this; T' esco do their own baby wipes which have just gone from 18p to 36p. Which I know is still relatively cheap however its the principle thats a 100% increase! GRRRR! ....

It's not cheeky! Even if you say "it's just to cover the cost of the ingredients". Why should you be expected to do it all for free? it's not fair... dont let them take advantage of you.

So i need to start cutting down - tried going cold turkey but it didnt work. Would it be more cost effective to save one of the small bottles and fill it up from a 2 litre bottle? Is this "proper" coke or own brand? Would you be able to down grade to own brand? or limit yourself to one proper coke a week (60p a can) and then down graded coke (50p for 2 litres?)... Where I live a box of 18 cans of proper coke is on offer at the local shop at the moment for £6 which seems like a good deal. But I dont drink it so its not a bargain for me! Good Luck... hope this helps... if not just ignore me! lol!:D

  • Minnie I am a total DC addict too! I've been trying to cut down - used to be 3/4 cans/day at work (and a 2 litre bottle in the evening) and managed to get down to one at lunchtime for the past couple of months. I've now "kicked" the habit in the day as I now buy concentrated apple juice for lunch (I know I could cut this even more with diluting but drink this all day so it's a bit of a treat). I can get a 1.5 litre carton at Mr L (does 3 lunches) for £1.29.

Still on about 3 cans in the evening - they're my next target!

    Hello everyone.

Had a reasonable day not too spendy although I took my daughter for lunch near my son's flat where she is staying. He lives on what is basically an industrial estate near the olympic site - there is not much around but there is a bijoux cafe which was full of yummy mummies. The prices were astronomical!

My daughter was all up for us to leave but I felt a bit embarrassed once we were settled in but they didn't have salami for the panini we ordered so we took that as a cue to take our leave and went to the workmen's cafe instead!

Bought some cat litter too and that was it.

Cobbled some dinner from the freezer basa, peas and boiled potatoes followed by a cloudy lemonade ice lolly.
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

good news - strawberries reduced to 52p a punnet, bad news - I renewed the car tax and bought a stupid book in poundland about a recovering shopaholic - 31k in debt and in her first month she spends almost 2k on a scooter and £32 for a haircut! Idiot!

Hi everyone, hope you're all well?

    paidin chickens that's amazing! Bravo!!!

Spent £66 yesterday and am in shock! £40 on new shoes (reduced from £55 though), needed to get smart but comfy for work and since 2 pairs have broken on me in less than 2 weeks I thought I'd try clarks not cheeps. £20 on a summer dress... In Bon marche and as mum got 2 skirts we filled out a full coupon so I've now a £5 voucher too.
The £6 in supermarket included a £1.08 reduced hot chicken which doesn't make up for my blowout but did taste nice.

Gotta have a cheep weekend now. Good luck everyone!
