does anyone want this book - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Diary-Recovering-Shopaholic/dp/1840468602 it just made me angry - stupid woman justifies £32 on a haircut and is £32k in debt, I couldn't read all of it just scanned through what is basically a list of expensive things she had bought even when trying to be frugal, and she still cleared 2k off her huge debt despite that so god only knows what the woman earns. I'll post it to you for free as a punishment for buying the poxy thing, even though it was only a pound.0

Hi everyone. not posted much lately as nothing ever seems to happen. I'm on holiday in Cyprus at the moment which is lovely and hot but we are self catering. The food here is really really expensive. I moaned at english prices but the prices in the supermarket here makes Waitrose look like Iceland!
Just a thought for the diet coke addicts. One of the ladies I work with started drinking iced tea intead of coke. Not sure how she made it but there should be reciepes online. I think the tea gave her the caffeine fix and she sometimes added sparkling water for some fizz.
I made elderflower cordial this year...nice with iced water, with or without fizz. The only problem is storing it in large quantities - I have an awful lot of bottles....tumptyteapot wrote: »does anyone want this book - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Diary-Recovering-Shopaholic/dp/1840468602 it just made me angry - stupid woman justifies £32 on a haircut and is £32k in debt, I couldn't read all of it just scanned through what is basically a list of expensive things she had bought even when trying to be frugal, and she still cleared 2k off her huge debt despite that so god only knows what the woman earns. Thanks but no thanks, Tumpty, I had a look at the link and it bored me to death. It's not only self-indulgent but also lazily written. SHE should be reading US! :rotfl:;)'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

I took this book out of the library last week. She does come across as being a bit of a dipstick doesn't she. Still she must have made a bit from the book so maybe there's a lesson there for us. Well probably not me as whenever I try to put pen to paper and write a witty and amusing story, it comes out all wrong somehow!
Life here is plodding along nicely. I had the interview for the promotion I have been after last Monday and will find out this Monday if I have been sucessful. I tried for it last year so will have to rethink the strategy for next year if needs be.
We have got friends coming to stay next weekend so next week will be quite expensive getting food and drink in. This weekend is given over to cleaning and tidying as we wouldn't like them to get the impression that we spend our lives in chaos....
Was looking at the prices in our local supermarket this morning. They are quite pricey anyway but £1.46 for a tin of tomatoes has got me talking to all my tomato plants and urging them on to produce loads this year. A 200g tin of tuna in oil was £2.08! Packets of cereal, over £3. It comes to something when looking at the prices in the supermarket is as shocking as a rollercoaster ride!
Best wishes for the weekend

anyway, not a frugal day today. slipped up, back to old ways and i dont know how. maybe going into town on a saturday was the mistake. i didnt spend huge a fortune, 35 - 40quid, and some was needed and planned, but i still feel aweful about it.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Hello fellow frugallers:j
Well now I know when my job is finishing I have donned my frugal head as of today and begun to put some more strategies into place to make our funds go further.
Here at Gnat Bottomed Towers I have started by joining 3 survey sites- I know it's hardly mega bucks but it all helps. From one I hope to get Amazon vouchers and another Tesco ones...we shall see. I am willing to try all sorts of new ideas:D Little spent here today- the small person and I travelled out to a local village which had a wonderful Pagan art exhibition. We parked in a side road so didn't have to part with 200 pennies for parking either. We also had a dig around in the charity shops there- not much to take my fancy but there's a great bookshop. Bought two immaculate paperbacks for 60p each for pressies and one for myself as a small treat.
I've baked today and made a meal from meatballs on offer and used up the left over stirfry veg from last night. OH is busily decanting the strawberry vino into demijohns so it can start fermenting.
I'll keep you posted as I try new frugal ideas- I think a reread of my Tightwad Gazette is most definitely in order. That always puts me in the right mindset.
