Bear in mind im 19 and not really into some of the things that others on this thread might be...but try me!

https://www.jayisgames.com - loads of free games, or games you can download as a trial (slightly frustrating if you get a good one though). There are games for everyone, including old school shoot em ups or beautiful interactive art games.

(think Nuala did it...is she okay?)

Erme, Nuala posted a few weeks ago that she's got RSI (ouch) so isn't able to type much at the minute.

    - congrats on the extra hours, the extra £££ will soon make a difference.

CatherineMM - welcome to the thread!

Miss Empty Piggy - you're having "my 2010" by the sounds of it: everything broke (it felt like it anyway) - washing machine, vacuum, lawn mower, TV (x 2)!

Lola - saw a Metro today while I was on the park & ride over to Dunfermline and there was a piece saying Hannah's doing really well - so glad to hear that. I know the funerals for Donna & Noah were today which must've been really difficult/traumatic for everyone so a big hug from me and I hope you're OK.

Minnie - that doesn't sound right about the laptop, I thought a 12 month guarantee meant it was covered for that period whatever the problem (unless it's been broken by the user).

Had a great day today, met up with an old school pal who I've not seen for at least 12 years. We've always kept in touch since we left school but have ended up living at opposite ends of the country most of the time. We realised that old age is creeping up on us as we had to take several "sit down & rest the aching bits" breaks! We also worked out it's 23 years since we left school which made us feel even older:(! However, it was great to see her and we're now only around 1 1/2 hours away so will be catching up more often now!

Peas were planted on Sunday (must go & water them) and the radishes are growing great guns. One row of spinach is growing like mad but the others are poorer (might be how much sun they're getting) so may need to move them.

    Have a good evening all.:)

    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

They are trying to claim that it has had a knock which it hasnt!! They dont seem to be open to the idea that this piece of plastic was faulty in the first place!! and surely if it had had such a knock to cause internal plastic to break there would be other damage or marks etc. There is only me and hubby and neither of us have knocked it at all. its our word against theirs etc though so we are stuck!!

    Hello fellow frugallers:j
I don't think that sounds quite right with your lappy either Minnie2- might be worth sounding out someone at the CAB to see how you stand legally. I know something sold has to be fit for purpose but not sure when the cut off period is.

Been at work today but managed a spot of thrifty footwork- the small person uses Clearasil and had run out- it costs £3.01 at Sooperdrug for a teeny bottle so had a scout round....on offer at £1.35 at Mr S. Much more to my liking thank you and so bought two. May go back and get another couple tomorrow at that price.

  • Back to work for me today. Managed to not buy any food at work which is excellent considering I had only remembered to pack a cup a soup and half a baguette and a couple of bananas. I normally eat loads more than that!!!! I also charged my phone at work and stayed there from 8 until 6 (don't get paid overtime) but would have used my own heating, computer, printer etc to do work on so I thought this was a more frugal way, and was really not looking forward to coming home to an empty house as DDs are away until sunday!!! (sob).

Am planning on doing a little bit more work, and then off to bed early as am a billy-no-mates!!! Have a great night everyone. x

    Hooray! Welcome back!
I was eyeing up nettles yesterday but think they might be a bit dog weed in central Bristol, might head out to the woods to get some nice fresh ones and some ramsoms too.

    Welcome all new comers.
I'm glad you haven't been put off Lady Lesley- we're a pretty tenacious bunch here with lots of mad frugalling ideas to share and try. I very much liked the sound of your nettle pasta and thought that it might go well with some hm nettle and wildgarlic pesto:D [using sunflower seeds rather than pinenuts to bring the price down even more!!]

I'm still waiting to hear about my job at the mo' which is very unsettling- it's unfortunately redundancy is looking more likely than not but won't know until next month.

Big hugs Aril. Hope it doesn't come to this.

Happy veggie growing rising. OH does ours, the taste really is lovely when you grow your own isn't it, even if its psychological :)

In a similar situation, Minnie, I found that a stiff letter headed SALE OF GOODS ACT 1974 and sent recorded delivery worked wonders. :D I had previously been shown the door by the shop assistant (I mean that literally, I was practically ejected from the shop because I wouldn't shut up about my lost £60 and they had other customers in there) but suddenly they decided perhaps I had a point after all, and I received a full refund. They insisted it was entirely out of goodwill! Whatever. I got my money. Google the relevant Act and/or get the CAB to draft the letter for you so that it pushes the right buttons. It's worth a try for something as expensive as a laptop.
