I ask again, is this thread for real. It's not as if he is considering taking drugs, is it. Is there a section on "Talk To Frank" on the illicit viewing of car reviews and how spot if your teenager is about to buy a car.

Does he get all moody and whines on about how he hasn't got any money

Does she constantly complain about being late everywhere and that the buses don't run after ten-thirty

Has he been asking for lifts to odd places, like car showrooms

Doe she say, "well all my mates are driving to Oswestry for the weekend but I can't go, because the trains don't go there."

If you can answer yes to any of those questions, you must intervene immediatley. Take away their bus pass, stop giving them lifts and check their internet history for signs of car based websites. If this doesn't work, humiliate them in front of their friends by telling them they have to be in bed by nine o'clock.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

well my lad's eyes lit up when I told him I was working for a garage ........thought I could get him a car as cheap as chips!

I told him to pick his car as he would be paying for the insurance and when he realised how much it would cost him he decided that borrowing mum's car wouldn't be so bad!

I used to do the same when I was first looking to drive. I was looking at what I could afford and what I could aspire to. Make sure he checks the insurance cost for any car he is interested in, particularly as he will be the main driver.
