I've somehow picked up Norton Security and it won't go! I have run the removal tool which tells me that it has gone, however the restart opens with a page inviting me to reinstall Norton yet the Norton icon is still there!! What am I doing wrong?

Have you used the correct (and latest) removal tool?0

I think so, I used a link from a thread on here about the same thing. Otherwise I haven't a clue0

Which Norton did (and continue to) have?0

Have you removed it from the 'start up' bit in msconfig?
Start / run / msconfig / start up (tab) and then untick anything you don't want to start.
A pen & paper is often handy to remind you what you did(nt) do0 -
1. Use Appremover (https://www.appremover.com) and checked for failed uninstall.
2. Press Start > Run > type Msconfig and press enter, then check on the Startup tabs0 -
This is what I ran - Norton Removal Tool 2011.0.5.13. I just followed each step, didn't go from start and there was no option to untick.0

I'll try that thanks0 -
sorry, being thick, not sure what I'm looking for in Msconfig? No sign of Norton in there.0

From what you're describing, they've left behind something to try to get you to rejoin the fold. It was probably just set to run the first boot after an uninstall - how many restarts have you done before you asked for help?
Another place to look is Start > Programs > Startup. The best way to look would be sysinternals autoruns, but some might find it intimidating.
By the way, how did you go with Appremover?0 -
Tried the Appremover and when it reached the tick box the only application showing is my AVG! So just exited. REstarted several times but is making no difference
There is a great big Norton icon on my desktop and it is in the add/remove list.0
