  • Hey whatatwit! How are you?

Nice to hear from you again! Err, the veggie/sausage/filo surprise was deflected when I spontaneously decided to go to the cinema instead: Stranger Than Fiction! Fantastic story, beautifully crafted film! Really, really, REALLY good! Go watch it! Dinner was a small box of sweet popcorn... *coughs* and we had a cheese sandwich when we got home.

I still think that the brussel sprouts and cabbage and the sausages somehow do fit together (maybe add potatoes?) and that the fragile filo pastry would make an interesting wrap to hold the whole thing together...? No? I also have a vision of brussel sprouts cooked, (but not to mush), and then cut in half, fried sharply in a pan and somehow sort of caramelised with balsamic vinegar. The bitterness of the sprout and the sweet vinegar would be great I think. Any thougts...?

Maybe I am watching too much Black Books. "...my oven can cook everything! My oven can cook pieces of oven...!?"

Have you had a mosey over to the old style board yet, they appear to make fantastic meals out of well....potato peelings....I kid you not. :D

Look, I am not from around here, ('here' being this ever green island of yours. I am from what English people persist on calling "Europe" or "the Continent". I am sure that when I was in school England, hell, the entire UK was pointed out to me as being part of Europe but I guess that's a question of view point, huh?), so, not wanting to make wild assumptions, I thought I need to ask you what you mean. What is a mosey?

The first things that popped into my head where moose and nose and then I thought about Snoopy but I am sure you're not refering to a Beagle, or are you? And is style board a kitchen chopping board? Cause here I am thinking about CSS style sheets and html and websites but then you mention the potato peelings and I had to think about this crazy fairy tale where this guy makes soup from an axe after fooling the woman whose oven he is using to enter her larder into the soup pot for 'additional' flavour. The axe was just the decoy.

I had my fair share of local cuisine, don't get me wrong. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that both the chip buttie and the crisp roll are rather tasty albeit hard to digest. (Would you like some more carbohydrate with that bread roll...?)

Anyway, I googled mosey and style board and that was even more confusing: There were a couple of interesting uses of the word mosey such as: "It’s time to mosey on back to the River Explorer." from the countrytours.com website, advertising river barging Texas style. Or barbecuen.com suggests I should "mosey around for ideas that will help [me] make better barbecue." M'kay... I also learnt that style boards can be fashionable surf boards. Dude.

So, who's mosey? And why is he after my potato peelings?

  • Hello moxie!

You're not only a fellow moomin fan but you also have a cat! Hurrah! =^.^=

I love the moomins! The books have accompanied me through all life's highs and lows since my childhood. Both my mom and her sister, my aunt (and soul mother), are avid fans, our entire family really. The stories are so beautifully written, the different characters are so varied and the dilemmas they find themselves in really substantial. Imagine losing your tooth brush in a crack in the earth during an earth quake in the middle of the night!

A few years ago my mom excitedly told me about the website of a women's magazine and about the chat facilities they had there. She suggested I'd sign up, too so we could meet and chat. So I did. When it came to finding a nick I was thinking for a little while and then I remembered that I am - of course - die kleine mue, little my. So I registered, entered the "cafe" and waited at the time we had arranged. I started chatting to some of the other people there and all of a sudden I read "muemmla (mymble) has entered the room." I knew it was my mom.

A couple of other family members also registered there. We had the snork maiden (my aunt), hemulen (my mom's brother, my uncle), moomin (my little brother), moominpapa (my step dad), snufkin (my aunt's son), muskrat or bisam (my aunt's husband, my uncle - you know, in "Comet in Moominland" there is a rat/philosopher constantly lying around in a hammock in the garden, reading; hairy, grumpy chap - remember?), and my OH is the snork, being an architect and all. *sigh* Ah, fond memories...

Earlier this year I saw a DVD box set I just had to buy: In the '70s a Polish production company made the most adorable fuzzy felt animations of "Comet in Moominland". It is sooooo beautiful! Really, really nice! Look! *points at the link she implanted in the word website*

Which is your favourite moomin book? If you could be any of the characters, who would you be and why?

  • Hey Clapton, (Eric is it? *hums Leila... got me on my knees, Leila...*)

That really clarified matters considerably. I was googling and searching for "super balance transfer" reading the small print of various cards' terms and conditions but of couldn't find anything.

MBNA also appears to have a fairly good offer on in the moment with a relatively long 0% BT period. I think we'll give this a go! Great! Thank you for taking the time to work your way through this long thread.

I'll let you know how it went!
    Have a lovely weekend!

Sorry Mue, for confusing you. He He He :D not really.

As so eloquently put by bikerqueen, it is a chat board on here, and yes mosey = wander.

People often post their varied ingredients from the fridge and the other posters try and come up with a meal. I'm sure there's a television programme in here somewhere.

Another favourite is fridge bottom soup...yum...

Glad you enjoyed the film, but was the popcorn budgetted for? :naughty:

I'm not even going to think about the fridge bottom soup *bleugh* and regarding the popcorn, I think that was a fairly cheap dinner for two, wasn't it...? *cough*blush* Definitely cheaper than the chippy we cycled past on the way home which could have easily lured us in...

My OH is rather deceptible to fatty food munchies and late night junk snacks. *sigh* But no! We stayed strong, cycled on and enjoyed a cheese sandwich instead!!! *pretends the popcorn was totally justified*

I think it's a soup you make yourself, not just a description of the bottom of your fridge.

*pictures Mue & Snork sat on floor enjoying the soup that has collected at the bottom of their fridge*

Gold star for the cycling home though, that's a real DFW attitude.

Oooooooh, ok. I get it. *ahem*more blushing followed by feeling a bit stupid* I was kind of hoping it wouldn't have to come to such desperate measures, you know, like "enjoying" the soupy remains of wasted foods scraped off the bottom of our fridge... *EAK!!!*

I think the idea of listing your ingredients and seeing what you could cook with it is great! When I was still studying full time I always thought that would make interesting TV: a student cooking challange! Based in a bigger city with a university or two a camera team would stop students on the street and challenge them to buy ingredients for £5. Together with whatever they had at home they would then cook a meal for at least two people. OR they can ring a few friends and invite them over. Each friend has to bring one ingredient and then together they have to cook. More friends means more ingredients but also means more mouth to feed.

With lots of international students around it would also hopefully introduce people to a wide variety of dishes they might not know yet or have never cooked before. It would be a practical cooking lesson that's not aimed at wanna-be chefs but people who want to be able to feed themselves, their friends and loved ones.

If I'd rule the world... Maybe I should start a campeign! Make me your Queen! Mue for President! No?

Anyway, OH and I had another chat about credit cards and super balance transfers and debt and money. I checked my credit score (am signed up with a company that gives me instant access) and my credit rating is fine except for the two rejections from Co-op and smile which aren't actually noted on the score anywhere (at least I couldn't see that information), so I decided to apply for the MBNA cc myself. If they reject me I have to wait 3ish months anyway. By the time I have their decision (a week? -ish?) OH will know if his cc charges him higher interest on the credit card cheques he recently used to pay building work and if so then he might need to move things as well and then we will explore either (further) 0%SuperBT cc or a loan into which be both consolidate our outstanding debts. By the end of January I have to move the Co-op cc £3000 and so we just need to remember to keep an eye on things, continue to spend as little as possible and keep chiselling away at the debts. *pling*plöng*splinter*pling*scratch*

I am really looking forward to being able to get this debt wagon on the road and start calculating when I'll be debt free!!!! Wow...

Am making a big pot of hoummous today! Mhhhhh!
