Mue,
Sterling work - you dropped off the radar, but I was sure you hadn't gone too far. All the work stuff sounds exciting - a period of transition is always unsettling, but sounds like you've got it under control, so the money will come with time. What is it you do exactly? (or inexactly - be as vague as you want)
I came up with an idea about buying an iMac - obviously I want one because I'm getting sick of XP, linux is fun but limited for my needs, my PC is knackered and vista looks like a digital nightmare... but I can't genuinely justify one. Sure it would be good for photography and film (both hobbies), but it would be nice to get a PC at home which I could make a ton of money out of... It's not like I'm sure of hardware at home, but it's all getting a bit old.
Anyway, the idea is that I've got about £800 saved, so it would be about May when I can realistically afford one. If I then take the £1300 or so and use half of it to pay off some of my graduate loan, I then I have to save another £750 before I can buy it, taking another 3 months. Ha, genius. But I'm thinking, why wait till May? Why don't I just use the money I have saved now and start fresh - that way, by July I'll enough saved and in the meantime am paying less interest. Geniuii.
Anway, there's a daily thread about spending - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=359223&page=2 - check it out.
