You can use it in cleaning and for laundry. Not sure what it is, but they used to sell it in Boots or local chemist.JAN Grocery Challange £200

Borax is sodium borate, a mineral. Looks like a handy thing to have, will have to put it on my list.JAN Grocery Challange £200

Is it a soap substitute then? Or a bleach?0

In laundry you use it as a soap additive and reduce the amount of soap powder. I find it really difficult to buy in the UK so my sister usually brings a couple of boxes of "20 mule team borax" (yes that really is what the brand is called) over when she visits from the states cos it is widely used and available over there.Life's a beach! It's definitely not bleach which is just as well because I always manage to spray some on my clothes when I'm cleaning
What I do is, dissolve a couple of tablespoons of it in a mug of hot water, when it's cool I pour it into a spray bottle and fill up with cold water and a squirt of washing up liquid. It cleans everything. If I run out, I use soda crystals instead.

Actually having used it for a while and sticking a cup full in my laundry gloop concoction. I'm not convinced that it does anymore than soda crystals:( and don't think I will go out of my way to buy some againLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0
