Landlord insists on rent paid by cheque....tax avoidance??

My Son's landlord insists he pays by cheque even though he has asked if he can pay by standing order. I just find it bizarre that anyone would choose to wait 5 days for the funds to clear.
Also should he have had receipts?
Thank you
Oldfashioned systems. More than once, in different residences, I've asked to pay ground rent or service charges by standing order or bank transfer but have been asked to pay by cheque instead. The reason given, each time, was that with cheques it's easier to keep track of who has paid and who is overdue.0 -

While true, your damnation of a cheque applies equally to a standing order. A standing order can also come from anywhere and go anywhere. Both can be verified on a statementMegaMiniMouse wrote: »A standing order is instantly checkable - if no bank statements are available, then HMRC will assume the worst
Cheques can come from anywhere and go anywhere, HMRC will only bother with the bigger issues

Yes but Op says they don't like them but not why they are angry with them.0 -
Whether or not you like other people, you need to deal with the things they are doing which are causing you problems - not pick on random pretexts to have a go at them.Because the !!!!!! has truly hit the fan these last couple of days, and i'll be honest I dont like them, but we dont like to like everybody, that's allowed isnt it!?
So leave the business about the cheques out of it, tell us what the real problem is.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
