so she ended up with the item AND their money, I don't suppose that's what she does at tesco's as well? Keeps the money in her pocket and walks out with her shopping?

The much loved supermarket analogy. Baffling world you live in.

Anybody got a clue why this thread survived beyond the second post - which gave the ideal answer?

Sounds fair to me if the RM had given Tesco the money for it if they lost her shopping on the way out too.

So you are saying it's not fair if you steal from Tesco, but as it's RM then it's fine.

I have just had a similar situation with an online store. they refunded me after a 28-day no-show, then a week later the goods arrived. I emailed to ask for a pre-paid label or freepost address if they would like me to return them and they said to keep them or pass to a charity shop.

it's not the same as in this case the store gave them to you for free, receiving the goods and keeping them without paying or contacting the store would have been wrong

She offered to return the item if the seller paid postage and they said they wouldnt, why should she pay for the return postage after they had made a claim with royal mail. Im sure if the seller changed their mind and said they would pay she would send it back no problem.

I would be inclined to ignore the seller, and give the item to a charity shop.

If they have claimed from Royal Mail, it may technically belong to Royal Mail but I can't imagine they would actually want it!

But as the OP did contact the seller and offer to return the goods provided that the seller paid for this, I still fail to see any correlation between the case in hand and your supermarket analogy.

    From the opening post.
Now heres the dilema, yesterday it turns up. I contacted the seller as it belongs to them since they refunded me, and they have told me I have to to pay for it again, which perhaps sounds fair enough.
