Loan arranged with my stolen debit card details!

Hi,

First time here!

Somebody has got hold of my debit card details. I've had the usual mobile phone top-ups charged to it - which my bank promptly refunded.
Now it turns out they have set up a payday loan with a company called 'Quick Quid', with the repayment/s set to come out of my bank account!
I had already put a stop on the card - but as the loan was arranged before the card was stopped, they took £250 anyway.
My bank (Co-op) is refusing to repay this, as they say Quick Quid is a legitimate company and I must sort it out with them.
I have contacted Quick Quid by telephone - to be fobbed of with an answerphone and a promise to get back to me within three working days - the company is American with a UK office, and all calls are answered in the States. I have emailed, and again, no reply. I have used their online contact form and again, as yet, no reply.
For a company that can arrange a loan in one hour, they sure as hell take a long time to deal with complaints.
Any idea what to do next? I'm paranoid they're going to take a second payment - they charge up to 2222% APR!
Would it be a good idea to close my account and open a new one?:wall:

Hope I've posted in the right place.

They will probably need proof that this has occured, have you reported this to the police? as your card has now been used this should be the first thing you should do so if any further transactions/credit agreements have been set up you will be able to prove easily these are not your debts.
  • Haven't reported to the police yet, the card was not stolen, they've just obtained my details from somewhere. I thought the police just referred you to the bank in these situations...
What strikes me as odd is this money has been paid into another account, maybe this is traceable?
What kind of loan company would agree to take payments out of a bank account that didn't belong to the applicant? At least you would have thought there would be a thorough ID check.
The loan is not in my name, because the telephone operator I spoke checked their system and there was no record.
I'm also concerned there may be searches against my credit record - guess I'll have to pay my pound and find out.

I would go back to your bank and tell them they must refund the money and then chase quick quid for this back, tell them that if they do not refund it to you that you will seek legal action !
  • I'm going in to my bank branch this lunchtime to see what they can do. I've found them much more helpful than the central armchair banking service in the past - so we'll see.

Have already threatened 'Quick Quid' with legal action. But they just don't reply. From what I can gather through internet searches, they have scant regard for UK law! I'll send them a letter of complaint, maybe have more luck than the email, telephone calls, and website contact already tried!

  • This is definitely fraud and I'm shocked that Co-op weren't more helpful. They should refund the money and begin a fraud investigation! Definitely complain to them as well!

Cash Euronet UK LLC T/a QuickQuid

They have an office in London : 483 Green lanes , London , N13 4BS

The bank are required to reimburse all fraudulent transactions be it debit/credit card or a dd , tell them that if they dont you will take them to the small claims court and also go to the FOS,

You could also esculate this to : neville.richardson@cfs.coop the CO OP Chief Exec

Hi, I was just wondering what you meant by this......

Its a way of testing if the card is still usable/not been stopped by the banks by the fraudsters.
  • Thanks Forwandert, bit worried now, my son mentioned the other day that there was 2 transactions on his account both the same day, it said....... £15 02 prebuy! Can you not phone the phone people and ask which phone number they topped up with your card.
