Getting a proof of posting - how?

If your only selling cheap items on flea bay, can you get a proof of postage from the post office WITHOUT sending things by recorded or special delivery? If so, how do you get it? Do i ask the counter staff for a receipt of purchase of stamps or something?
Owed out = lots.

If it's stuff that needs weighing you can ask for proof of posting & the staff write the postcode on to each receipt that comes out of the machine. Mine will give you a book of certificates of posting & you can fill in the details & when you take all your items in to post they will stamp it.0

thanks, i just read proof of posting is not a proof of delivery however, maybe best to send things recorded then.Owed out = lots. :cool:0

Recorded doesn't always work. Most would agree it is not worth the 74p charge.
If the item is less than £41 your CoP (certificate of posting) will cover you in the event of a claim for loss via Royal Mail. It will not defend a Paypal or Ebay chargeback. So if the item is lost, reimburse the seller and claim from RM.
If the item is more than £41, then you must use an adequately insured method, such as courier or Special Delivery. Both offer tracking and will defend a claim for INR (item not recieved).
If the item is more than £150, you need to show tracking online with a signature to defend a Paypal or Ebay claim.0 -
You can get a proof of posting even if you've already put stamps on the item and just want to hand it in over the counter. Done that many times when I know what the weight is and I want to use up stamps I have instead of paying more cash out!0

Paypal state that for Protection for Unauthorised Payment a PoP (with address on it) is sufficient, for INR proof of delivery is also required.

Yes, I was referring to INR and didn't make that clear.
The UC (unathroised chargeback) is defendable by a COP but can happen up to 180 days after the purchase. It is the one time that a COP is useful for a Paypal claim.0 -

I wanted to point that out mainly because I've gone to great lengths to make sure I get a PoP with address on it...
now that they have stopped printing the CoP booklets my local POs only give out the print out without address, and if you send a lot of stuff they don't really like having to add each address individually. They'd probably refuse, knowing them, as RM don't require the address in order to claim.
(but I don't think this is relevant to the OP)0 -
Have we ever got to the bottom of whether the P326 forms where you write in up to ten items are being phased out or not? My PO still gives them out. Some POs seem to make up their own rules.terra_ferma wrote: »now that they have stopped printing the CoP booklets0 -

I think they are. I've heard it from several people on the boards, as well as my PO. Maybe your PO still has them in stock, but I don't think they'll get them any more when they run out.0 -
I have just checked my online mail supplies order with RM, and I can still order them. So perhaps it is a 'personal phasing' out by individual PO's? It makes life a bit quicker if they use the till receipt but add the postal code and house number.0
