Why do we..........

open and close our curtains?

Ridiculous question, I know.

My OH asked me this morning, why we bother opening our curtains in a morning if we're out all day. My reply of 'we just do' didn't really answer his question :rotfl:

It all started when I asked him to open the curtains if I forget to do it - as I had the day before, I leave first in the morning about 7.15am and don't go into any rooms downstairs but do pretty much remember to open them. With the now sunny nights :T I noticed last night when I pulled on the drive I hadn't opened them in the morning.

He said if no one is in through the day, surely it's better have them closed, but I would have thought for security it's better to have them open.

Does anyone know? (Told you it was a ridiculous question).

I guess blinds would solve the problem.................
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

i would open the curtains, and close thm again in the evening, makes the house look like someone is living there. if they were closed all the time, it would look empty

Don't we close them of a night time to help keep the heat in and open them in the morning to let the sunshine in - that's what I'd say.

And, if you keep them closed whilst your out all day, it's like you're advertising that you're not there and therefore a better target for opportunistic burglars.

Since we decorated last year, we have no curtains or blinds in my bedroom. I have tinted windows and I get undressed in the bathroom. :o I must get some though as it's getting lighter now and i'll never get to sleep in the summer!

My teenage son almost NEVER opens his curtains...going in his room is like entering some strange twilight world. If he does it to try to deter me from going in, it's not a bad move :rotfl:

I open the curtains for my dogs. PArtly so they can see things to stimulate them, partly so they get some healthy natural light, for there eye health and mental health.

O'm at home most days but when I wasn't I opened and closed things as appropriate for us. Curtains closed against a hot july sun is no bad idea, opened in the winter for some free daytime heat for the same. Closed keeps the heat in at night.

In other countries there are different customs..e.g. on the continent with shutters its common to close them in city apartments, unlikely to be useful for thieves, when you go out. In the very hot island I used to live in you had shutters you could adjust for a little light but not too much in the heat of the day....and fly screens.

I got blackout blinds for my 3. Worst thing I could've done. They don't need an excuse to sleep any longer than they do! They cost too much to just get rid of though.

This. It's a murky sort of hell in dd's room. Can't understand how she ever finds anything.

Although, to be fair, from the amount of clothes decorating the floor.. maybe she can't!
