sadly must report some expenditure today on the items I forgot to buy yesterday   when grocery shopping... very disorganised!! So potatoes, coffee, coconut milk, onions & some parmesan cheese came to £11.39
  • OK this is a bit of a long post but I feel the need to "purge"!

I need to post for the whole weekend as I have been away.

Before I went away yesterday I spent £50.05 in Sainsburys. This is the most I've spent for ages but it included lots of non food items. On the plus side we did get to use a triple nectar points voucher & we got a 5p off per litre petrol voucher. I suppose that's better than a slap in the face with a wet fish.

Then onto the rest of the weekend!

OK this is going to sound truly awful, given my circumstances but believe me, it's going to be a long time till I do anything like this again.

I went to see George Michael at Earl's Court last night - fabulous.

Anyway the tickets were bought & paid for in May, when I had a QuidCo payment so that was good.

However stupidly I 'forgot' to budget/save for the train fare to London, hotel & food. My friend paid me for the ticket and her half of the hotel back in May/June time but...surprisingly, that cash disappeared way before yesterday

So, yesterday I had to put £42 on my credit card for train fare & today I had to pay £69 for the hotel (although considering it was a Chelsea Hotel, it could have been a lot worse! Hurrah for 'internet specials'!).

I do have some good news though. We didn't get to London till later than expected, it was raining and we just didn't fancy trudging around so we just got some food from the Sainsburys at Fulham Broadway tube station, ate that at the hotel, had a good chat/laugh before getting the bus to Earl's Court.

Didn't spend anything in the venue.

Walked back to the hotel (got lost...spent 90 minutes walking around so that's my free exercise for the weekend!) and then this morning, didn't have breakfast at the hotel, we just went straight to King's Cross and got a baguette, danish pastry & cuppa tea to dine on before getting on a train to come home.

I have come back with loads of change that I intend to either put back in the bank this week or use for shopping or something USEFUL. I think my cash spend (over & above train fare & hotel) was about £12 (edit!). Considering I just had the best part of a weekend in one of the most expensive parts of London...is that pretty good or what? And £2 of that was a drink at the train station before we went to London yesterday!

My overdraft is probably at it's worst right now.....but.....I believe that from tomorrow, because I have no more big nights out or anything coming up (I won't even go out New Year's Eve) I can now start to make in roads.

I feel a second wind coming on and very positive about a 'fresh start'.

And, I have to say, I had the most fantastic night/weekend with a lovely friend I don't see that often now and these sorts of memories are precious.

Time for the hard work to start again now.

Good luck everyone with your challenges for the week!

    Hi LA

I LOVED the update, thank you! I am so envious of your night out, it sounds so lovely! I really like George Michael and hope he delivered for you! :)

I am chuffed to bits to read this part of your update as not only you show you know what is one of the most important things in life - time with loved ones - but also you have revived enthusiasm and zest for the debt free journey!

  • Evening all. I'm aiming for £99

Slowly reducing it each week, and to get sub-£100 would be lovely.

    Today: £10.15

    Good luck all.
  • Hi everyone. This week, I spent £37.95 - oh dear. This was partly due to going to the local shops.

So, today I did an online shop with Tescos which I dont include in this budget, so that should save me some money. This week, I will give myself £30 again, which I am almost positive, I wont go over.

Moving is very tiring, 2 years ago I moved twice in one year, it put me off big time. x
  • Evening moozie and all DFWs

Just a quick one from me,budget was £149,spent £169,BUT,we came home with over 1/2 tank of fuel which will last the month,so taking off the fuel actual spend would come in around £145 :j

A good thing happened today,do you remember the boot sale we done a few weeks ago? well,we had a call from a lady to buy a unit we had for sale.DH put a picture of it on the car at the sale, the lady paid £110 for it :D

Still very poorly today,GP is coming again tomorrow to 'talk a course of action'

Budget for week will be £8

Good to see you positive angelite - I think that's half the battle!

I've not moved in nearly 8 years and I think we have a lot more stuff now than we did then :o It is tiring and not something I'd want to do again soon! Well done on doing it twice and staying sane!
