Well.. no one has tried to sell me anything. I wish I was in an NTL area... we only got BB 18 months ago.. I'm just one mile too rural for choice, it seems!!

  • Just another thought - we had issues with dropouts on the ADSL - but also had noisy phone lines (I have wired the house with telephone cable - hence know the internal wiring was OK). The noises you heard on the phone were digital signals from the ADSL router talking to the router at our ISP. Sometimes it was hard to hear people talking to you on the phone.

We replaced the BT master faceplate with one designed for ADSL that is used by BT for home installations - and threw away all the £2.99 cheap individual ones. The new face plate filtered the phone line at the point of entry into the house - and then we just ran all the phone extensions from the filtered socket - it worked a treat. A colleague at work put me on to them.

I got it from ADSL nation - currently they have two options:

The sockets just replace the facia place that unplugs as shown on the picture on the first page of this thread.

    Hope that helps

hate to say this but my friends and I have been having similar problems with BT at the moment....theres three of us and we live a few miles apart and are served by different exchanges....wired/wireless...you name it we all normally work on wireless but we kept our standard hard wired adsl modems just in case (we know how good the BT helpdesk can be ;( )

over this last week we have been talking to those cowboys in the Indian call centre and really all we wanted to know was if there was a problem at BTs end....but no....they insist you go through their checklist....boring AND a waste of time...we all knew our home equipment was working fine....we are all still waiting for a "call back" as well....the service has since come back on....our thoughts are since we are all on the old BT internet Broadband....are they subtly wanting us to change to their new "all in one " packages...we are very suspicious....just wish NTL would come here then we can dump sky/bt and bt phones....

Had the same problems with the call centre, they seem to go off a set list, however after trying 3 pc's, 2 modems, various cables and connecting into the main phone connection, they finally got the hint and checked the phone line, which turned out to be the problem! only took 3 days to get that through to them!

Thanks for the suggestion about changing plates.

I'm still in the tortuous process of email tennis with BT.. have now asked for a copy if internal and external complaints procedures and they've gone a little bit quiet...

.. will look at plates next if they don't come through (not really expecting them to!)

Well... just spoke to manager at call centre.. he is getting an engineer to investigate and call me by close of play Saturday (I asked what the engineer was actually checking, and he didn't know..)

Of course typically today my connection is working like a charm.. been gaming for 60 mins with no dropped line...

    Argh!!!

No engineer call back but it looks like they've done something as it's all now working a treat.

Special thanks to espresso and albertross for patience in dealing with my slow brain :-)
