Actually, you need to completely close the credit card account in question. If you merely report the card as lost and receive a replacement, any merchant with details of the original (lost) card can still charge your account - even if the new card has a different card number.Gilly_flower wrote: »If you want to make sure the car hire company can't charge to your credit card, change/cancel your cc number.0 -
After mulling this one over, I emailed the police authority to say that I wasn't happy settling the fine as I didn't know who was driving. They replied saying that I need to fill out a form saying who was driving, and get it signed by someone in authority etc etc, and that if I don't know who was driving then their law says that the person who actually hired the car is responsible (ie me).
Well, I've decided just to ignore it from here, and not pay up. I'm sure they will write to me a few times, but I think I will hold my nerve. If things start to get heavy, I'll just have to pay!!
I'm fully prepared to be on Australia's 'Wanted' list!!!!!0
