Paying for a pc to be fixed and getting it back with the same fault

hello

i'm not sure if any thing can be done about my problem but i've feel as though i've got to try because it's been a bad experiance buying from this shop.

Two and half years ago I got a shop called computer orbit to build a pc with in days it developed a fault and a blue screen kept appearing so I took it back and they changed the mother board ever since then the fault/blue screen has been on and off intermittently. Unfortunately now the blue screen wouldn’t let the pc boot up in any mode so took it back to the same shop about 7 weeks ago and explained the blue screen to them yet again and they said the hard drive had failed so they replaced it. Got it back home connected every thing up still got a blue screen. But it went away when I restarted it. But then the blue screen came back and wouldn’t let it reboot at all so took it back and they phoned me saying it might be software related. Point being where do I stand I’ve paid to have the blue screen/fault fixed only to be told it might be software related now and they will charge me again. I thought I had already paid to have the blue screen/fault fixed when I took it in and they replaced the hard drive. Is it unreasonable to expect more than 2 and a half years use out of it after paying £1200 just for the pc tower? Any advice would be gratefully received

  • What exactly was the BSOD? If it developed the same problem every time then they ahev not done a satisfactory job of building the PC. If it was a different BSOD everytime then then have not correctly fixed it either as one problem has led to another through the fix.

As your outside of the 6 month that SOGA states I believe its up to you to prove that the machine was inherently faulty when you purchased it from them.. Though i cant remember about personal builds - but even so it should have worked and I believe you would have a good case to proceed against them seeing as you both have records of taking it in to get repaired.

From personal experience, I've had lots of hard drive failures, but it's never caused a BSOD.

Download a free program called WhoCrashed, run it, select analyse, and post the results here :)
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Machine is back in the shop I got a phone call today saying they will have to install windows again. Because they think its software related so I’m waiting for another call to say it's ready. I’ve still got all the receipts so I might give what Jeff Bridges hair has suggested a go. When I get it back I’ll keep Who Crashed in mined because I’m expecting it to happen again. because when I speak to them I get the distinct feeling they are fobbing me off because they cant figure out what it is

Not a very good repair shop then is it.. The BSOD will always tell you at the top of the screen what the issue is.. Write it down.

    Hi all,

This is getting rather technical, so I'll move the thread across to the techy board.

Once they've established what the fault is and if it's "new" or "inherent" the BG there can send it back here if the OP needs advice on what to do next.

How often do these blue screens happen? is it every time you start the computer or do you get some use out of the pc before it happens?

Are there any yellow exclamation marks in DEVICE MANAGER? (although, im assuming you dont have it, and you couldnt open device manager if you had?)

Have you tried to do any windows updates for your hardware?

Could really do with seeing the bluescreen/s for anyone here to help

  • The blue screen came on as soon as I got it back from the resent fix/new hard drive so I restarted it. after a few weeks it started doing it more regularly until it wouldn’t start .it's been the same blue screen since they built it .I have a photo of the blue screen so showed them it and they said they cannot under stand why that particular screen comes up.originaly I thought webrootspy sweeper was causing it but I did not put webroot back on after they put a new hard drive in. I couldn’t figure out how to upload a photo of it so if any one can tell me how to I’ll upload a photo of the screen. I’m still waiting for the shop to ring me back

    go here as an example

If you tell us what it says on yours where on the picture it says

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    and

the Technical Information by STOP: 0x000000D1 and the 4 codes next to it.

The easiest (I find) to upload a picture is to use PhotoBucket - once you have uplaoded it you can get a link to your picture and link it here.

Find another shop or educate yourself. Too many morons who've done a few computers for family set up in business.
