I think nearly everyone on here keeps their MF dreams to themselves in case they are deemed "mad" by other people

I'm regularly told I'm mad for OPing and I should spend it on holidays which I would if work wanted to give me an extra 2 weeks a year :)

Thank you very much for your kind replies. They cheered me up no end. Especially as you have confirmed that I am not alone in my madness!!

Today, exciting news - I am a lottery winner. Just have to decide whether to throw the whole £2.50 at the mortgage or save some of it :rotfl:

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi everyone,

It's raining here again, there seems to be no let up.

DH has been asked to go back to NZ for a few weeks on an urgent basis, but this means he will miss DS 16th birthday so he has said no, as he missed DS 15th birthday last year. DH is sad not to go, but I think he has made the right decision. Both kids are sad he's not going too, as my parenting/bedtimes are far more relaxed than DH's :rotfl:

I have taken the bull by the horns and decided that I cannot continue being this weight any longer. Because of my illness I cannot eat any fruit, veg or fibre, so it's going to be a struggle, but I have to at least try. I have decided to go and have a look round Curves today - not very MSE I know, but it might give me the kick start I need. I have printed off a voucher for a free week's trial and will see how I get on. Also I have downloaded a free app as mentioned on the Weight Loss Old Style board and it tracks calories consumed and exercise. It's great.

Mortgage wise, not much has been going on so I have thrown £10.00 at it today just because I could :j

Have a great day everyone, and avoid the rain.

Nothing to report, sadly. It's all quiet here apart from the incessant sound of the rain, oh and my new cough, which I am happily sharing with all I meet.

Nothing additional to throw at the mortgage, other than the preplanned weekly and monthly amounts. I have been concentrating on clearing the holiday credit card.

Hope everyone is avoiding the floods.

Today, I have a big dilemma going on. Here's what I have posted on the House Buying & Selling Board:

    Here's my dilemma:

We, Mrs tjp70 (41), Mr tjp70 (47), DS (16) & DD (11), live in a 3 bed semi on the outskirts on a town. We moved here 9 years ago from a lovely village where we had a two bed house but we got to the stage where the kids couldn’t share a bedroom any longer. Sadly we couldn’t afford a 3 bed semi in that village so we moved to where we are now, in an area that we don’t really like. I still drive the kids to their schools near the village each day, 18 miles a day on school runs alone. However DS leaves school this summer. DD will change to senior school in September and we have managed to get her into the local school here, so the school runs stop this summer. (Let’s not get started on how DS will get to college – we haven’t addressed that no matter where we live!)

We are almost within spitting distance of paying off the mortgage. Whilst we still have quite a chunk to pay off, we have endowments that mature in 2015 and we regularly overpay so our best case scenario MF date is December 2015. But this is not my forever house and therein lies the problem.

I just happened to be looking at 4 bedroom detached houses on rightmove (like you do) and saw the most perfect house for sale in our old road. It has all the things I have wanted: 4 bedrooms, detached, off road parking, patio area in the garden, utility room etc. and it is up for sale for £50,000 more than our current house is worth.

    So what to do?

The pros are that it would be our last move, in an area where we want to be, DS would be nearer his school friends, no noisy neighbours.

The cons are that we would be doubling our mortgage, we will have to try and get DD into the local senior school (having spent ages buoying her up about going to the other one). The nice house could be sold before we get a chance to sell ours.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

DH and I had a really good look at the listing on r/move last night and there is a huge tree at the end of the garden of this lovely house. When we lived in this road, our house had subsidence as did many others, caused by trees/clay soil combination. Needless to say DH is now very wary. We are viewing it tonight but I am not holding out much hope. Even if it is okay, it would be a minor miracle if we could sell ours in time.

We went to see the house. The garage appears to be open to the elements, the fourth bedroom would be better described as an airing cupboard, the tree at the back is HUGE and the lawn underneath cannot grow because of it plus there are massive cracks in the house.

I am sort of pleased as we are no longer in a dilemma. However DH is now talking about moving :(

A decision has been made at last and it should bring an end to the dillydallying.

We are going to get our house up together, declutter and generally freshen it up and then we are going to put it on the market. If we don’t do it now, we will never do it and we will always live in an area we don’t particularly like. So we are going for it.

I could almost cry with regards to the additional mortgage we will be getting but it will be worth it in the end. There’s no point staying here, mortgage free, but unhappy.

So today’s efforts have been to declutter the garage and weed the front garden. Tomorrow I must ebay some stuff (I hate ebaying but I must do it).

I will report back tomorrow, even if I haven’t done it :T

There are four items listed on ebay, one of which is a spare 4 man tent, which we had to erect in the garden, photograph and then pack away again. DH was not amused ;)

Not as much listed as I would have liked but better than the last free listing weekend when I listed nothing

The tent has ten watchers so fingers crossed. One of the other items has sold – yay!

Well, the house moving plans have a spanner in the works. Whilst I am self employed, I only work for one group (five companies within the group). Yesterday I found out that they are struggling financially, so it might not be the best time to be moving (using up most of our savings in the process) and doubling the mortgage. I spoke to DH about it last night – we have decided to continue with the plans to spruce up the house and wait and see what happens with my work. That way, if things improve, the house will be ready to put on the market. If things deteriorate, then we will be able to manage in our current house on DH salary alone. My Dad has a great saying along the lines of ‘life is what happens to you when you are planning on doing something else’ or something like that! Very apt!

We threw an additional £200.00 op at the mortgage and it has reduced our debt to sub £55k which is fantastic. OPs this year have reached £2248.00 which I am really pleased about.

Off to do some work (whilst it’s still there)…..
