    Lois,

That is fantastic thank you. I will put something together for him.

I've had a really busy day. It's actually been sunny here so I took advantage of a lovely drying day, as my Nan would have said, and had two loads of laundry on the line. All the ironing has been done, the cake is being decorated by DD as I type, the accounts have been emailed to the accountant, weekly meal plan sorted and DD's school cardy has had a makeshift repair. DH mowed the lawns too :j

Just need to clean up the kitchen (icing sugar EVERYWHERE ) and then I can cook tea.

    Have a nice evening everyone.

    Morning all,

I am feeling a bit low today. My tummy has been playing up the last week or so (after a really good patch) and it was so bad at work today that I had to leave. I am starting to feel a bit better now, but just can't get motivated to get back on and do some work

This weather is driving me potty. Thank goodness we had a drier day yesterday so we could get the lawn cut and some laundry dried outside. I hate using my TD - I just see it as a massive waste of money. It doesn't help that it is right next to the electricity meter and as soon as I put it on, I can see the little disc in the meter spinning round like crazy, taunting me :rotfl:

Okay - time to do some work and stop mooching through the diaries.

Thanks Radish, I am feeling better today plus the sun is shining :j:j

Today, not much has been happening, just work and organising the kids. I gave into my OCD today and sent £14.86 to the mortgage account so this years overpayments total a nice round £2950! Sadly I didn't have the extra £50.00 spare to round it up to £3000.

Dinner is in the oven - I made a savoury mince packed with extra veggies and put par boiled sliced potatoes on the top to make it a one pot meal. That should help with the washing up.

DD has decided that she is old enough to shave her legs () so I had better go upstairs and check how she's getting on. :rotfl:

We are on holiday in Yorkshire and the weather is beautiful. I am sat here with the door open, listening to the sound of the birds, and the bees buzzing around the honeysuckle that surrounds the garden. It's just lovely and very peaceful too, as the rest of the house is still sound asleep.

Not much money saving going on, but plenty of relaxing and having fun with the family.

Have a good day everyone, and hope the weather is lovely with you.

I have just checked the mortgage account - I know I shouldn't as we are on holiday but I couldn't help myself. We are having a lazy day today and the laptop keeps logging on to MSE for some strange reason :rotfl:

Overpayments for 2012 now total £2975 - next Monday the weekly o/p of £25 will hit and we will have overpaid £3000 this year :T

When I next get disheartened or demotivated, I must remember that we have done all these OPs, plus had three holidays this year, two of which were in the US.

On another note, DH & I are both hoping that the quote for the extension is waiting for us at home. That might change things a little!

Now imagine how big the OP's would be if you hadn't gone on holiday :rotfl:

Shows that you have a nice balance between life and OP's and if required you could squeeze some more money

We have arrived home after a lovely week away, really relaxing which is just what we all needed (maybe with the exception of DS who couldn’t get more relaxed if he tried!) :rotfl:

After much unpacking and putting away, we opened the mail which included the quote for the extension. It came in at £36500

It was supposed to be so clear cut – we had made a decision that we would put it off for a few years if it was over £25000 but I could tell that DH was really disappointed. So we looked at some figures and I made some lengthy calculations.

Warning: here comes the boring part:

We could take out an additional mortgage of £30000 and finance the rest ourselves. The extension mortgage would be for the same remaining term as our existing mortgage (final payment May 2023). We could stop the majority of the overpayments that we currently make and that would go a long way towards the monthly extension mortgage payments. The endowments pay out in 2015 and it would make sense to repay as much as possible of the extension mortgage as this would be a higher interest rate. I calculated that we could still be mortgage free of both mortgages by late 2019. :j

We have questions that need answering so we will be going back to the builder. Some things may not be included and they have quoted for painting and decorating, which we can certainly do ourselves.

Also, I think we should get a second quote.

And I thought this dilemma had gone away :D

    Morning,

I woke up at stupid o'clock this morning as I had a nightmare and then started thinking about the extension and couldn't get back to sleep  I finally gave in and got up at 4.30am. It's a good job there's a Grand Prix on later so I can have a sneaky nap whilst DH watches that.

I was thinking that our current lounge diner layout works very well, however the conservatory is used more for storage and drying of laundry. When the extension goes ahead, we will have one very large square room. It will be very hard to utilise all the space and I feel we will end up with a larger sofa and a larger table, but will not have gained much, other than a new mortgage.

This does not mean that I do not wish to go ahead, I do. I just need a bit of help with the layout, or maybe the design. Maybe not knock the entire dividing wall down and create a den type area? I just don't know. So I have called for help and my parents will be here later to give some guidance. My Dad is an engineer and has a brilliant eye for things like that.

Did I mention that I used to be undecided??? :rotfl:

I had a very busy day yesterday. The company I work for needs me to get up to date pronto as it is year end and in view of my holiday, I am a week behind. I set up the laptop on the dining table, surrounded myself with piles of paperwork and had the Olympics on in the background. I achieved quite a bit, despite trying to keep DD entertained. Plus it was a NSD.

Yesterday I also sorted out our personal finances and I have until mid September to pay off the credit card before the interest free period expires. We have a new 0% card that any additional expenditure is being put on, so the bill will not increase. With DH just being paid, we do have enough available savings to pay off the credit card in full now. But I don’t want to use it :rotfl:

So my challenge to myself is to see how much I can get paid off before mid September, without diving into the savings too much. There are a few small hurdles on the way, we have an expensive month coming up, with my nephew getting married, which obviously involves outfits for us all, a wedding present and an overnight stay in a hotel. Plus, New York!! :j Actually, thinking about the outfits for the wedding, it’s just me causing the problem! DD has an outfit for the wedding and I bought her some new shoes recently – I am just hoping that they match the dress, so she should be sorted. DS doesn’t need anything – we bought him a new shirt whilst on holiday last week and he can wear the trousers and tie that he wore to the June wedding. DH just wants a new tie and will wear his new suit. I did buy myself a dress and it was a little snug when I bought it. After a lovely relaxing holiday full of yummy food, I now can’t move in it. With less than two weeks to the wedding, there is no way that is going to fit. I can’t crash diet due to my tummy so I will have to go shopping.

Today DS has been asked to help out a neighbour with his work as one of his employees is away. I am pleased that DS is out doing something although I do wish the neighbour wasn’t a tree surgeon  and then I wouldn’t worry so much!! Clumsy DS & a chain saw is not worth thinking about.

This afternoon I have to go to BUPA/Spire/Whatever its now called to get a dodgy mole checked out. I called my insurance company to get an authorisation number yesterday and was told that the consultation is covered, but they will need a letter from the consultant regarding the nature of the mole before they will cover for its removal. Basically they will only pay for diseased moles to be removed. For my own peace of mind, if there is any question as to whether it is a nasty mole, then I want it gone. This could cost me quite a few hundred pounds, but I can see no logic in waiting for it to turn cancerous, just so the insurance company will pay.

Anyway, I should be working before people enquire how I am getting on with my work. Have a good day everyone.
