    Hi FSM,

Thank you for your nice post. I hope your cat is feeling better today.

Missy's blood test results came back showing an overactive thyroid, which is amazing as she had one of her thyroid glands removed two years ago, so the remaining one must have gone onto overtime. I asked the vet why she kept getting recurrent bladder infections and she had no answer - just said that her kidneys were showing normal function. So she is now on meds to slow the thyroid down and she will be reviewed in a week. She was sick again this morning - it's now becoming a regular thing. She's happy right now though - she has climbed into DS's bed and snuggled down under the duvet.

Relaxing on holiday and trying hard (and failing) not to use my downtime reading MSE threads.

The weather here is beautiful but I hear from the BBC News site that it is foul at home.

    Wishing everyone a Happy Easter.

Expensive day here today as DS discovered Abercrombie & Fitch!!!

It's great having web access though as I can keep track of the spending, and so far, we are within budget. We still have four more days to enjoy this beautiful house and glorious weather.

It's all come to an end and we have to fly home today. Not one of us wants to leave. Like most holidays, it has been the quickest fortnight ever.

I woke to a text advising that my Grandmother died during the night. We weren't that close but I feel for my Dad.

We arrived back from holiday yesterday morning. I have a mountain of washing to do and a mini mountain of new shoes that need new homes in the house (we all went a bit mad shoe shopping). ;)

The owner of the cattery didn’t want Missy to leave and insisted on carrying her to the car and strapping her in the back seat. I must be an awful cat owner for I have never strapped the cat box in. I found it quite amusing.

We managed to stay in budget by the skin of our teeth (despite the shoe shopping frenzy). Whilst I was away I still managed to overpay the mortgage by a few smaller payments totalling £120.90 which I am pleased about. This brings the 2012 overpayments to £1652.21.:T

To save money today, I have cooked a home made curry with a portion spare for the freezer. I have also made a pile of things to put on ebay tomorrow to take advantage of the free listing weekend. So tomorrow’s job list is:

Write out a meal plan for the week
    Ebay
    Bake bread
    Bake a cake
Visit parents, who had to cut short their holiday due to Grandmother’s death

If I write the list in my diary, then I am more likely to do it!! It's motivating and plus, you may tell me off if I fail :rotfl:

    Back tomorrow for an update.

Well I did 4 out of 5. I didn't get chance to put anything on eBay which is a shame. Hopefully there will be another free listing weekend in the not too distant future.

Back to work tomorrow which I am not looking forward to.

Morning all. It's wet and windy here - yuk!

The regular weekly £25.00 overpayment went to the mortgage yesterday and today I made an overpayment of £40.72 which is the amount we used to pay for DH car insurance each month, before he got his company car.

Yesterday I remembered that I stated at the beginning of the year that my next challenge is to get below £50,000 by the end of the year. Somehow I need to find £1000.00 in addition to my regular overpayments to achieve this. It is certainly going to be a challenge but I am up for it.

I am feeling very low today. It’s a mixture of things that has caused it, the major one being what I call PHD – post holiday depression. Also, we had a chat at one of the places I work yesterday, about mortgages. I was told that I was foolish for ploughing money into the mortgage when my interest rate is so low (2.5%), I should be saving the money instead. For me though, I need the feel good factor of seeing that balance decrease, together with the decrease of the daily interest amount. I think that if I had the money in a savings account, there would always be a temptation to spend it, whereas once it’s in the mortgage account, the money is effectively spent. The same person also berated me for not having a pension. I did not want to tell him that my best case scenario mortgage free date is only 3½ years away (it’s my business after all, not his) and thereafter, a big chunk of our income will be put in a savings account called TJP's Pension Fund.

I have also spent a lot of time on my own this week. I did venture into the office yesterday, but I now have to share an office with someone else who is high maintenance, so I have camped out at home again today. I have not been very motivated and I am annoyed with myself.

If I can find one thing that is good………..the sun has just come out. :)

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi TJP

Just saw your post and although we haven't been introduced (:D) I wanted to say.... don't let that person make you feel bad about the choices that you are making. I totally understand your need to see the balance decreasing and not just that - it's better not to give the bank ANY interest if you don't have to - let's face it they are giving little enough back on interest in our direction at the moment anyway.

I don't have a pension either and am also planning on starting the pension pot when the mortgage is done (by 2015 hopefully!). Try and smile sweetly, bite your tongue and when he is sitting there struggling to pay his mortgage and yours is done and dusted you can have a smug little laugh to yourself and maybe even remind him of your conversation. ;)

I work quite a bit on my own (with two springer spaniels for company) and sometimes it is difficult to motivate yourself when it's easier to be dipping into the internet - hence the reason I am reading your post!! oops!!

Sun out here too and it's not too long till it's time to get out in it so best wishes for a better end to your day.

    Hi Anna,

Thank you so much for replying. It's nice to know that people are reading, and that you also have very similar goals to me.

The guy at the office is older than me, has no mortgage and I think he feels superior to me. But that's okay - as you say I shall smile sweetly and carry on as I am.

I feel a bit brighter now. I have collected the kids from school and we had loud music in the car on the way home :rotfl:
It's raining now, but that's okay, I am indoors.
