Thats very sad. I think it must have been more than the debt and secrecy that drove him to suicide. No-one may ever know the full reasons as he is now gone. His partner must have had her reasons why she kept the job loss from him, we shouldnt judge her. My thoughts are with every-one who is involved in this.God bless.

My most sincere condolences to you too.
My dad committed suicide (19 yrs ago now), it wasn't over money problems, but I know EXACTLY what you are going through right now. DO NOT torture yourself thinking you could have done more - you did everything you could - you were there for him when he needed someone and unfortunately if someone is determined to die then nothing will stop them. Now, all these years later it still upsets me to think I will never see my dad again, and to make matters worse, we have recently been burgled and they took a gold watch my dad bought for my 18th birthday, the year before he died! I'm not bothered about all the other stuff - it can be replaced, but the watch never will be. Sorry to go off on a tangent! - be strong and there for the fiancee if she needs it and love to you in this difficult time xx

  • My sincerest condolences go to you and your friends family. It must have taken a lot for you to write all of that down and I hope it helps somebody. As others have said, dont blame yourself - you did everything that you could. Im sure you must be going through an awful time, so many questions but I suppose the biggest one is why? Be strong and you can always come here to talk.

It's so terrible when someone commits suicide. Someone I used to work with and was quite fond of did the same last week with pills and drink. Yet no-one would ever have had him down as likely to do so. Relationship problems and debt drove him to it. It's so sad to feel that someone sees that as the only way out.

It's hard to know what to say, obviously condolences to you over the loss of a friend etc. But you must take heart that your apparent financial savvy would have helped him on the right road and may have got him in a much better position had he been without other problems. I hope that your post makes people sit up, think, and be aware as there seems to be far too much stigma around matters of personal finance
