hi all, i still have my mortgage with halifax but dont live in the property so obviously havent had any letters about this. So glad you started the thread as I rang up a few weeks ago to see if i was ahead or just on target and they said I was £1000 in front...I knew this wasnt true as we were £1000 in front before taking a 6 month payment break...I suspect this has now given me my answer. I might phone them tomorrow and ask for the cheque instead!

  • Hi all, just spoken to a Halifax advisor again today, apparently so many people have contested their payment or non-payment that my name is still on the spreadsheet not dealt with. Also I was told that my case isn't as straightforward.
Does anyone else feel that they are getting fobbed off!

    Hi,

I would really appreaciate if someone could give me their opinion on if I qualify according to the details below. I rang Halifax just now but there was no flag on my account to say I qualified so after explaining the details they have referred me over to a different department who will review for me.

I took out a mortgage on my old flat for 80K in May 2007. It was a 2 year fixed rate that was due to go onto SVR on 1st July 2009.

I moved home on June 2009 but I took 77K of the above mortgage with me as it was a portable mortgage. In addition to the 77K I took out a further amount of 100K at a fixed rate. The new overall deal began on 12th June 2009 under a new mortgage roll number.

I've now been paying SVR on the 77K since July 2009 (Along with the further amount at the fixed rate).

At first I thought I would qualify as the 77K was taken out within the date criteria and I still hold this mortgage now. Now I'm thinking that as I signed new documentation in June 2009 and I didnt start SVR until July 2009 this may cover Halifax and they wont need to pay out.

    Thanks in advance.

The removal of the 2% link to BofE rate had already occurred, so I doubt you're owed anything.

Thats what I was thinking too but I had thought that would only affect me if the new documentation I signed in 2009 superceeded the documentation from 2007.

I'm hoping that as the 77K I signed for in 2007 was portable I may still be in with a shout of the goodwill payment.

No harm in trying I guess!
  • Hi BillyMCC

Just wondered what you did to make progress. I had 2 offers from Halifax in 2005 and 2006 and maintained my mortgage with them through to Sep 2009 (on SVR) when I paid it off. Have chased them 3 times since May and still heard nothing. Thought I was getting somewhere today and the lady came back on the line, said there was a fire alarm (I could hear the bell) and suggested I call back later!

    Any suggestions?

just received a letter from halifax that I was after all entitled to a goodwill payment this was after their initial letter stating I did not qualify. after many phone calls they finally admitted they were wrong, so if anyone else thinks they should be entitled to the payment then take halifax on and get them to prove otherwise. my payment was £1080 I also got them to send me details of how they calculated the payments and also all the figures that go with them.
Thanks to all those who placed comments on the forum that helped me a lot.

  • By way of further update - I got through to Halifax again who now tell me that their records show that a payment has been made to me, although she was very confused and couldn't find anything else on record, verify the amount or find any letters. Nothing received my end at any stage.

Is anyone else having the same problems?
  • Finally received a cheque yesterday for £1250. There was no calculations included in the letter to state how they came up with this figure, but it does seem about right. I don't know if this helped speed up the process, but I emailed customer services and started in capital letters "please treat this as an official complaint" before I basically said I felt like I was being fobbed off. Worth a go if you are still waiting.

I received £2175 credited to my mortgage account last month and I took out my mortgage October 2003

Why did I get only £480 when I took my mortgage in 2001?
