hi I have received a £100 goodwill payment from the halifax and was just wondering if they owe me more than they are letting on. How do i find out and who can i ask about it without getting fobbed off. I haven't got my mortgage with them anymore but i read that some people are getting £1500+ credited to their mortgage account. Any help would be very much appreciated :A0

hi all
this is my first posting so please bear with me, I contacted halifax and was told that I didn't qualify for the goodwill payment even though I knew i was, told them they should check my annual review statements from 2006 till 2009 and that would tell them the type of mortgage I was on after many heated phone calls they have admitted their mistake and that I am entitled to a payment also made an official complaint about the service I had received in dealing with this I also told them that I would be seeking compensation this is now in the hands of their executive complaints dept. If any one else has been told they are not entitled to a payment please check and ask halifax to resend you your annual mortgage statements will let you all know what the final settlement is.:j0 -
I already had my payment, even though I redeemed mortgage in march.
Today, I received another cheque for £128 as they have now limited their admin fees for redemption to £50 or something from 1 Mar, but I was charged (via solicitors) at £178
happy days, as that is second cheque in a few weeks and I would never have known0 -

Hi Diable,
Can you tell me how they caculated their goodwill payment to you, and were you given the option to have it paid by cheque or was it taken off your mortgage.
thanks
billy
I noticed it on my statement, haven't a clue how they calculated it but it was over £2k's worth so I am happy plus I also thought that I didn't meet the criteria so I am keeping quiet.0 -
The Halifax are making these payments because they're been told to by the FSA. For anyone who likes reading these things there's a section on the FSA website.
The most important bit for some of the people on this thread is that the Halifax must refund the money in either of the 2 following ways:
"For existing customers:
- The payment is to be made by crediting the mortgage account; first by set-off against (and so as to reduce as far as possible) any arrears, and next by set-off against (so as to reduce) the principal.
- But, if the customer asks for an amount that would otherwise be paid by set-off against the principal (as opposed to against arrears) to be paid in some other way (e.g. by set-off against another account or as a payment by cheque) the firm will do this."
I've highlighted the important bit - they have to pay a cheque rather than credit it to your account if that's what you ask for.
I would post a link but as a new user I'm not allowed. So to see for yourself go to the FSA website (fsa.gov.uk) with a www on front and search Halifax SVR - it came top of the list when I did it.
The bit about sending a cheque is on page 5 of the FSA document.0 -

just received a letter from halifax that I was after all entitled to a goodwill payment this was after their initial letter stating I did not qualify. after many phone calls they finally admitted they were wrong, so if anyone else thinks they should be entitled to the payment then take halifax on and get them to prove otherwise. my payment was £1080 I also got them to send me details of how they calculated the payments and also all the figures that go with them.
Thanks to all those who placed comments on the forum that helped me a lot.

Hi, just wondering if anyone else is still waiting for their 'goodwill payment'. I ceased being a halifax mortgage customer in January 2011 due to moving home. I have been told by Halifax that they are dealing with their present customers first, after many more calls to them I have now been told that iam now 'on the spreadsheet', but they will not give me any idea of how much longer I will have to wait.
It seems that depending on who i get to speak to at the Halifax depends on what information iam told.
Anybody else still waiting or have information as to what is currently happening?0 -
I ceased being a customer in mid march, got a cheque in mid May. I didnt even think I qualified.
THey have since sent me cheques for charging too much on the mortgage redemption fees, and even credited my mastercard due to some interest miscalculation. I wonder what they will send me a cheque for next lol.0
