...I rang Lloyds TSB only to be told the max on FP is £500! (even though that website states £20k by phone) She said the only way I'm going to get the money in tomorrow is by CHAPS and a nice £30 fee for doing next to nothing .. what a wonderful banking system we have!

Can I multiple FP £500 up to 25k? lol
I think the £500 figure may be bogus - I regularly transfer around the £5000 mark from Lloyds via FP on the internet from my Vantage accounts. However, there may well be a significantly lower limit on first payments to a new beneficiary!

Lloyds is one of the better banks on FP as when you input the payment details and amount you then get a second screen which will either tell you the payment will reach the recipient's account the next working day/2-3 working days (i.e. not Faster Payments) or that it will reach the account in the next 2 hours (i.e. Faster Payments) so you have the opportunity to cancel the payment request if the screen indicates that FP will not be used.

So as long as you can live with just getting a partial amount in the Northern Rock account, you should just give it a try.
  • my pack arrived today
    is tomorrow definitely the cutoff
may chance it anyway worst case it gets rejected and cheque is returned i guess

    just a quick question

    do you stick the
    acceptance of account
    transaction request form
    r85
    my cheque

all in the freepost envelope they sent???

transaction request form (ie my deposit) seems to be asked to be sent to a different address which has me slightly perplexed

    envelope is
    transaction services
    savings
    northern rock plc
    northern rock house
    gosforth
    newcastle
    NE3 4UF

transaction request form wants sending to
    operations
    northern rock plc
    northern rock house
    gosforth
    newcastle
    NE3 4PL

ok quick update for anyone who's interested. In a nutshell Lloyds are excellent for Faster Payments.

I transferred 20k yesterday in account within 2 hrs (conditional), transferred another 5k at 9:36am this morning rang them at 09:43 to double check my 20k had been authorised and they said they'd received that and the 5k also so think I've broken a record for faster payments time of 7 minutes!!

One Happy Chappy here, now just need to give them 180 days notice of withdrawal :)

Thanks for the help all appreciate it!
  • Hi,

just had letter in from Northern Rock about my Fixed Rate Bond Issue 389, due to mature on 1st May, and was offered the Fixed Rate Notice Bond Issue 2 (4%) as one of the options for re-investment, and also the chance to invest new money into it.

Our Fixed Rate Bonds can be withdrawn at any time, so the sooner you respond, the better. Once a Bond is withdrawn from the market, you will be unable to make additional deposits. However, the Bonds offered in this mailing will be guaranteed if we receive your instruction before the date shown.

So, requested a full transfer and enclosed a cheque for a bit more, so seems though it's closed to new investors still open for transfers.

I'll be going for the 180 days notice though, as I don't want to tie money up for too long.
