    A couple of other questions.

Should ClockWorkMod show in my list of apps as I can't see it?

How do you get out of the recovery screen if you don't want to do anything?

Now when I go to Recovery Manager from apps I getting this again "The application Recovery Manager (process com.podtwo.RecoveryManager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".

Clockworkmod won't show in the list of apps as it's not an app, it's a recovery program used at phone boot-up to install ROM's basically. I'm not sure what's wrong with RecoveryManager but then I've never used it. I installed the Japanese Jellyfish ROM to my sons OSF and he's been happy with that and has stuck with it.

If you want something to backup your apps / contacts / settings then try Titanium Backup or MyBackup, save everything, put the new flash ROM onto your SD cards root directory, boot into recovery (Clockwork) with volume down pressed and power button clicked and after doing a factory reset and wiping the cache install zip file from SD card, let it do its stuff then reinstall Titanium or MyBackup from the market and do a restore from that to get all your apps and data back.

Thanks. It's Japanese Jellyfish I am intending installing. Don't think I need to back up as the phone is just over a week old and I've only installed a couple of apps. My contacts are on my sim card.

Although the Modaco forums are brilliant and full of information, I am going to use the instructions on https://www.orangesanfrancisco.co.uk as I find them much easier to follow.

I am intending installing JJ by connecting the phone to my pc. However when I do connect it to the pc it asks if I want to mount or unmount the SD card. Which should I choose?

Sorry I didn't spot this sooner and you may well have figured it out by now. Basically, connect phone to PC, boot phone up into recovery, factory reset and wipe cache, MOUNT the SD card, this then allows your PC to see the SD card as a new disk drive. Install Japanese Jellyfish to the main (root) directory on the SD card, UNMOUNT the card then find 'Install zip from SD card', find the JJ zip file, select it and let it rip. Once the menu returns select reboot and after 5-10 minutes you should have yourself an OSF running the Japanese Jellyfish ROM. :)

Thanks for the instructions. I haven't got round to installing the custom ROM yet, but hope to find time at the weekend.

Still very disappointed with the Modaco forums as I haven't received any replies to the posts I've made in the Newbie forum. Think I will try posting in the main OSF forum and see if I have any better luck there.

I flashed my sons OSF purely by following the instructions on the orangesanfran.... site you mentioned, it's really easy. Indeed I've tried many different ROM's on my Desire and how the hell I haven't managed to brick it is an achievement in itself! Much more to lose if I brick my Desire and much more complex to root and flash than the OSF. Get it flashed. :)

It's done! Did it last night and it was no problem to get it flashed.

However since flashing it with JJ, it won't connect to the internet. I've read Modaco and people report it not connecting after waking from sleep, but mine won't connect at all.

Can you suggest another ROM to try?

Do I need to uninstall JJ first and if so, how do I do that?

If I install a new one do I have to start from scratch installing Androot, ClockworkMod, etc?

i just mounted phone and copied new rom to sdcard and then installed using clockwork. you will need to wipe cache partition and wipe data/factory reset in clockwork before or after flashing rom

I currently using Swedish spring RLS3 which is effectively a later version of JJ. It has been made by the same dev. Wifi behaves much better on this. You can find it on the modaco forum.

I had a spell with Cyanomodgen (gingerbread 2.3) but ther were too many bugs for daily use.
