Stuck installing ClockWork on Orange San Francisco

I have managed to root my phone using these instructions

http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-the-orange-san-francisco-zte-blade/

However I have come unstuck trying to install ClockWork.

I got as far as Page 3 Step 22 and got the wrong Hash code. It says "Delete all previous files you download using ES File Explorer and follow from Step 8 again." However I have no idea which files, where they are or how to delete them.

Can anyone explain in step by step idiot proof language please?

I shall copy this to the Mobile Phones board as I'm not sure if it should be here or there.

OK You do all these steps on your phone:

Delete all the files in the /downloads folder. (If unsure, connect your phone to your PC and Move everything out of the "/downloads" folder instead)

Then start from step 8 (opening the browser to download "latest.zip".)

Use the Explorer program to view the /downloads folder and press and hold on "latest.zip" and select "Extract to" then "Current location" from the menu.

    Then start the ManD5

Press "Select a file" browse to "/downloads" and select "clock.img" and press "OK"

You should then get a long string of characters "4b949d51c54501e1a3dd0a4c6095766e"

Then keep going from step 23..

I've followed the steps and up to step 22 and the CODE is the same and so it's fine for me.

    *To be honest*
If you're having problems at this stage! I'd suggest you *DON'T* Install The ClockworkMod Recovery.
leave it till you are more comfortable with the phone and using the command line. As you will probably brick the phone if it goes wrong...

How do I find the "/downloads" folder on the phone? I have found it by plugging it into the pc. Is it OK to just delete the files from there or do I have to uninstall them?

Yes I tend to agree with your final statement about leaving it, but thought I would give it a go as I've managed to unlock phoned before.

Use the "EZ File Explorer" program to find the files on your mobile.
If you're unsure just delete "Latest.zip" & "clock.img" and start form Step 8

If you connect it to your PC it should let you browse some of the phone's folders and Downloads should be one of them...

Thanks for that. Managed to get the correct Hash code and now I have hit another snag.

I got as far as Step 31 and got the error message it mentions. Although it was definitely rooted, I rooted it again as instructed.
If you get the following error message…

"The application Recovery Manager (process com.podtwo.RecoveryManager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

…make sure you have rooted your phone. Instructions on how to root can be found on the previous page.

If you have already rooted your phone, root it again. Then from the app list on your phone, go to Settings -> Manage Applications -> Recovery Manager -> Clear data -> OK

However when I tried the above, after Manage Applications > Recovery Manager, Clear Data doesn't appear. All that appears is Uninstall or Clear Cache. I tried clearing the cache, but that hasn't worked.

    Any ideas?

It says my device is already rooted, but I have rooted it yet again and it says "Woot! Your device is rooted!"

Update! I went into Recovery Manager from the Apps instead of through Manage Applications and have managed to finish the job.

    Many thanks for your help.

I will have a think whether I am brave enough to attempt the rest, but will leave that until at least tomorrow.

One thing, I did get a message saying the phone was rooted and that it invalidated the warranty. Anything to be concerned about? I believe you can restore to factory settings or am I wrong?

Technically it does break warranty. Was your phoned Branded?

If it was then check the XDA-Developers Forum for your Networks Branded image (it will be a .EXE) that you run on your PC with the phone connected and it will flash the branded ROM taking it back to how you got it.

Otherwise you can use a suitable Stock ROM.

Yes it was branded Orange which I have still to get rid of. I have backed up what is on it at the moment and will fall back on a stock ROM if it becomes necessary.

Any idea how long it takes to install a custom ROM? I'm tempted to try it now, but don't want to still be here in another 3 hours time!

Have changed ROM's on my sons OSF a few times, typically takes about 15 minutes. :) Reinstalling all the apps and stuff obviously takes longer. :)
