There doesn't seem to be a way around it - Paypal simply can't account for joint accounts.

I tried setting up a DD on a savings account. It went through on the Paypal website and my account became confirmed (verified? Whatever their word is). The DD was rejected by the bank because they wouldn't let me have a DD on a savings account. Nonetheless, my Paypal account is still confirmed, so I think I've managed to trick their system.

I don't want to use the account too much though in case they realise and revert me to unverified.

I looked on Google and people have been complaining for years about Paypal not letting couples both set up using the same joint account. Nothing's changed so I doubt it ever will.
