If the HR department don't know what they're doing, it could be all sorts of things. Have you received any round sum expenses allowances, or do you get paid your mileage to and from work? Do you have a company car, health insurance etc and have you been paying the correct tax on those?
The only real way you can be helped is to give the figures to somebody who knows what they're talking about-either here or get yourself some professional help. Good luck.import this0 -
Family_man starts new job and hands in P45. Employer loses the P45 and doesn't ask for P46. Family_man get his 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc payslips and doesn't notice they are paying over £50.00 pw / £200.00 a month less tax than is due. Come on you must have thought Christmas had come early!!!
This month i took home £150.00 more than i expected. First thing i checked was my deductions closely followed by what overtime had been paid. Soon found out why I had the additional pay. I have never taken home the same monthly wage in the past 8 or 9 years, perhaps this is why i always check my payslip.....
Unfortunately it is your responsibility to make sure your pay is correct.0 -
Just one question, have the HR dept put all of their failings in writing to you? If so this could be useful if trying to claim employer error via HMRC.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

I expect the "HR department" might be on maternity leave.
Like Ryan Air's complaints department.
Not everyone works in organisations with the luxury of huge overheads.0 -
This is very frustrating - I'd never ever accept someone else's calcs; I absolutely have to do them myself to triple check before I even considered handing over more tax. I can't believe that the OP is too stubborn to post their P60s and thus possibly save themselves thousands; which leaves me to believe that he knew all along that less tax was being paid.
Intriguing.....If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I had no idea, I don’t know anything about how tax works but I do know you have to pay it and there no way around it. I don’t know who anyone is on here, I was just looking for some general advice I didn’t really want to share my personal details online.
I started a new job on a new salary which I knew was higher than my old one that was it, I had nothing to reference against. I handed my P45 in to Hr I thought my affairs were in order why would I feel the need to chase it up.

It seems to me that your best chance of achieving anything will be with Extra statutory concession A19.
If you are on the cutting tax forum page there is a search facility. If you type in A19 you will find hundreds of threads on the subject and also see that most of the people you have called rude on here have given very useful advice to others. Those threads may give you some pointers to sort this out for yourself without giving any more information.
Would you feel comfortable giving the tax years involved?
For which years have HMRC sent you forms P800?
These look more like letters than forms but they do include the computations and there should be a separate one for each tax year.0 -
I can understand that but for those who try to give advice the more information you are willing to share, the better the quality of advice that can be given.

Thank you jimmo. 08-09 are the years involved and you are right as I have also consulted legal advice and they have advised me to do what you have said.

No they haven't they just said they were really sorry.0 -
I would rather not post any documents on here and I cant seem too anyway as its not giving me the option. I have my p60s and p800s would anyone be prepared to have a quick look over them if they PM me with their email address please. I have scanned them and kept the files a high quality and as small as possible, only 2meg for 5 documents. I would have no idea if the figures were right or not and I would really appreciate it. I agree it has to be worth checking. It’s just finding this whole situation very frustrating and I am under a lot of pressure from it.0

You don't need to give anyone the documents, or scans.
Just post the figures for each yearIf you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
