Three Mobile - All You Can Eat Data - One Plan - feedback & advice?

Hi,

I'd be really grateful for feedback from anyone who is already on the Three "All you can eat Data" package.

I have mobile broadband from Vodaphone at the moment costing £15 a month, I think it is 3GB which has been fine for my needs.

In the future I'd like to be able to download more music and TV which I daren't do with my 3GB package in case I go over the limit. So I was looking at the 15GB Three mobile broadband deal.

Went into store yesterday and they told me I'd be better off signing up to their "One Plan" where you take out a phone contract (so get an Android phone, thousands of inclusive minutes, texts etc., but crucially "all you can eat data" with NO CAP OR LIMIT.

I was told I could take the sim out of the contract phone and put into a mobile broadband dongle and then be able to get online on my laptop with absolutely no limit in terms of usage.

This seems to good to be true. I need a new phone anyway and it would mean I wouldn't have to pay out separately for a mobile broadband service. I wondered if anyone is already on this deal and could confirm if it really does work like this, i.e. being able to take the SIM card out of your phone and use it to access mobile broadband. Is there a catch, is the service really slow or unreliable etc.

The three needs I have in order of importance are:

• Good, reliable mobile broadband.
• Update my ancient PAYG phone
• SatNav (I was going to buy a separate unit but was shown that the Android phones have these built in)
• MP3 player and good capacity storage for my music

Any feedback/comment on the One Plan and general advice for someone who is fairly clueless about up to the minute technology would be very gratefully received!

What does "all you can eat" data really mean? You cant eat data. It sounds to me like they want people to think its unlimited but as its loosly worded they can impose any restrictions they want.

Look for a fair usage policy.

Unlimited simply doesn't exist on any mobile broadband sfaik and if it does it won't last for long once it becomes popular.

On the Vodafone contract if you are past your minimum term all you need to is phone up and they'll reduce it to £7.50 for 9 months then you phone again during the ninth month for a repeat. 3 give more bandwidth but the best 3G for anyone is from the provider with best coverage where they normally use it. For me that is Vodafone.

Thanks for the replies. I am as sceptical as anyone believe me ... hence this post...

The person in store said there is definitely no fair usage policy and no cap at all.

I googled it and several sites come up, including a BBC news one and this one on neondragon which seem to confirm it.

It still seems to good to be true to me. I will never be a massive user, maybe 4 or 5GB a month occasionally a bit more if I download some TV programmes. What I'm after really is just the safety net of knowing if you go a bit mad one month you're not going to be hit by a huge bill.

If anyone is on this plan already and can comment on how reliable it is and if there really is no cap that would be great. It looks like it first started to be offered earlier this year.

I found 3 mobile broadband to be excruciatingly slow. If you are downloading music then this could possibly end up being not fit for purpose.

I did a broadband speed check and was getting around 200kbps download speed which was nowhere near the advertised speed. After 2 years of being welded into the contract I finally changed to virgin and the speed check came back at just under 10mb which was as described. When downloading music or film this makes a massive difference.

I couldn't even go onto you tube with my 3 dongle as it took forever to fill the little red bar.

Customer services were also useless as their only advice was to stand in the window - pathetic!

connection speed very much depends on where you live

I get 5MB with Three,whereas Virgin woulod be useless

It is totally unlimited, they are even happy for you to use it to tether a pc/laptop. I found recently that my subscription includes a premium subscription to Spotify. I know that some people have reception problems with three, mine has been fine, but ask around your friends for their local experiences.

My home broadband is currently down and i am currently connected to my htc desire wirelessly using 3 mobile broadband. It is very very quick and so quick i am thinking of ditching home broadband all together.

If you got a HTC desire with the one plan you'd be able to mae the phone its own wireless network hot spot and connect your pc/laptop wirelessly to it.
