The first rattle........ :(

Starting to think it's the glovebox - it seemed to be much worse with something sat on the little shelf above it.0

The wife has now had her Clio for 17 months, getting on for 60k now, no rattles, clunks and still getting nigh on 60mpg in mostly urban use.:p:D0

My Laguna cost nearly 3x what that Clio would've when new and had plenty of rattles and clunks
(TBH a brand new Twingo I test drove had a rattly dash too at 10 miles :rotfl:)0 -
You have to admit though Kilty, you were singing the praises of your Kia, I think you may have jinxed it.
I haven't driven many of the newer Renaults, but know loads of minicab drivers that had them as company cars, Espaces' where pigs, the bloke that drove a Laguna 2 thought it was fine till the turbo went pop, and the Scenic 1.9, same engine as the Laguna I think, had the same fate.
I have heard no horror stories about the 1.5DCi engine as fitted to several Nissans and other Renaults, so perhaps the issues may have been down to minimal maintenance.
Hence why i am keeping the Clio serviced well above the norm.
I think the Twingo you drove was the entry level one that is basically a new version of the Campus from years ago, and they had almost no sound deadening as they were meant to be cheap not comfy.
I must say I would have gone for a Twingo before a Picanto, but the Picanto has the advantage of 5 doors and a longer warranty.0 -
I just didn't get on with the Twingo - and I still don't buy this story of sound deadening because it has exactly the same weight as higher spec models - surely soundproofing weighs something?0

Only going on what has been said in reviews, the one you drove is the basic spec, with almost everything removed in an attempt to get the price down, almost certainly to compete with cars like your Picanto. I looked at them when pricing up possible cars for the wifes Care Company
May take one for a test drive this weekend. As you have driven one and i am only going by press reviews, but if a Renault is noisy the press don't tend to give them an easy ride.
The girl at work that used to have a Picanto never said it was quiet, she just liked the long warranty and she put big miles on it, but she is glad to now have her Focus.0 -

didnt renault do a silly timing set up on those 1.5dci?
something about a rubber peice on the cam pully and as a result when doing the timing you had to replace the cam pully too?
kit was like nearly £200.0 -
Not sure as the cambelt is not due for a few thousand mile yet, without checking the service book it is either 60k or 72k.
With a car of that age I would just get a cambelt kit from Renault, add in a waterpump and give it to my mechanic, I have already checked he is able to do it, he has looked in his autodata book and given a decent quote, he never mentioned that it was anything other than a normal run of the mill cambelt job.0
