Bike tyres, general advice on bike

I've bought the ones I saw on ebay first and i'll get the bike out on my next days off to lube up and check over.
I'll also have a wee read at how to set it up correctly.
The just push I was going to try and avoid(embarrasment lol), but realistically its the best option.

folks laugh at fat people at the gym,but who else needs ot be at a gym that someone who is fat?
when i used to go for early runs round holyrood park i would often see the less fit folk out early before most folks arrived(arond 5am) and i had respect for them getting out and doing it. The park is a tough run0 -

I have recently cycled to work, it took me about an hour. It is about 8-9 miles away. I had to keep stopping to catch my breath and I had to get off and walk as there is a huge hill, it took me about 10 minutes to walk up it.
My bike is a MB and I have jsut put smooth tyres on it, I was hoping it would make a massive difference but I don't think it has.
I want to cycle to work tomorrow but also have to overcome the embarrassment of feeling that people are looking at me cos I am fat and unfit

doesnt matter,even when i cycled 7 days a week
there was always someone faster/fitter
you may want to consider getting a cheap bike computer
it can give you a boost to see your average speed or time to complete a certain part etc improve0 -

it is so annoying when I think I am cycling flat out and someone glides past me on a bike seemingly 20 miles ph faster than me
I am thinking about getting more of a racing bike so it is lighter, but I also thought I would lose weight/get fitter quicker because my bike is heavy0 -

theres arghuments for both
i had a mate who commuted on a road bike but Edinburgh's crap roads and cobbles destroyed the wheels,sohe went MTB
if you dont offroad then a hybrid/commuter is a good compromise0 -

Bike tyres make quite a difference, a rigid mountain bike with narrow slick tyres pumped up to 65psi is going to be substantially faster than the same bike with fat knobbly tyres not properly inflated.
Bike tyres need to be FIRM, there should be very little give in them at all, you need something like this really: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-high-pressure-floor-pump/ Pump up your tyres to at least the minimum pressure printed on the side wall, but probably better close to the maximum.0
