I get things that randomly turn up after being missing, eg I once looked page by page for my car tax renewal form couldn't find it, then dh looked whilst I was at work and told me it was the first piece of paperwork on the pile, but I'd looked several times!! JK Rowling even mentions it in her Harry potter books that the wizards put some sort of disappearing charms on items to bait muggles, but it's hard to prove cos the muggles just think they ahve misplaced stuff. That is enough to convince me that is happens in most households.

You seem quite sure that someone in your household is doing this to play games though, so I am guessing you either haven't ever experienced the 'it's there but I looked there' before or you have reason to believe that someone is doing this to wind you up?

in medieval times, they knew about things disappearing and strangely reappearing, and they would have a liitle doorway on the inside of the dwelling to let the 'little people' back in to put the things back. They would ask them to do so aswell! I had a bad one about 15 months ago: a vital CD Rom that had been sent to me disappeared and needed returning, I turned the house upside down, was really panicking as I was worried I would lose the contract. Fell into bed at 3.30 am having searched everywhere, got up 3 hrs later before anyone else, and the CD Rom was actually sticking up out of my briefcase!! No way had it been there before. I do believe these things happen in every house, tho I have no idea why! :-)

OK I've had a couple of drinks and may be speaking shoite ;) but do you know any 'friendly police officers' who could have a wee word with your offspring and hopefully 'scare them' or find out who it was and this may stop? Good luck Babe. x

Cheers scottish (no pun intended lol). Wouldn't work though as eldest has learning difficulties.

My sister lived on her own and things were forever going missing only to turn up exactly where she first looked for them weeks later.

This was the year after our beloved young nephew had died.......

It would seem you're not alone, I've had messages from other people to say similar things.

Not beyond the realms of possibility but very unlikely.

There are only 2 options, either someone has done this deliberately (for whatever reason) or there is something supernatural going on.

As most of you will be aware, I am on the pc a fair bit :o therefore am in front of the shelf the monitor sits on, many times in a day. There is no way in God's earth could the bank card have simply been 'overlooked'. It was sitting in full view, it's not even as if anything had to be moved to see it, the shelf is empty apart from the monitor.

The t-shirt was draped over the top of the clothes rail my daughter uses at the moment. She goes there every day for her coat. It was over the top so had to be moved to take a coat hanger out. Again, no possible way it could ever have been overlooked.

Before now, I would never have said any of my lot would have wound me up (in this way) but it seems the only reasonable option.
That thought went thru my mind but I refrained from mentioning it in case it scared you. Is this is what is at the root of your fears? I am not a great believer in supernatural, so I think what could happen is that the bank card fell out of something and fell onto the floor where it was spotted by someone and they just absent mindedly put in on the nearest shelf. No one has owned up to doing it cos they weren't 'aware' enough of their actions, bit similar to when you go back to check if you locked the front door/switched the oven off only to find; yes you have but you don't remember doing so. Or if you drive when you arrive at your destination and reaslise you can't remember a big chunk of your journey. Your DD might have put her coat on top of where the missing t-shirt was picked the 2 things up together and slung them both in the wardrobe, over the rail. Next time she went for her coat the t-shirt was left there and again wasn't noticed. I know they don't always look properly My own 11yo has sworn blind on more than 1 occassion that I plant his clothes in his wardrobe just so I can prove him wrong when he comes down and insists that his <clothing item> isn't in his wardrobe and I immediately go upstairs and produce it from said wardrobe!

I do wonder if this is what is upsetting you? That things that are obviously important to you, the rest of the family don't seem bothered about, and so don't take enough interest to look what they are doing if they are finding you items in the manner I suggest.

P.S I think most households have a 'ghost' with a fetish for odd socks.;)

No, I honestly don't have any fears about all this, I'm upset because the bank card and t-shirt in particular were needed and have been looked for, for weeks now and someone has waited until now to replace them and then deny all knowledge. Whilst I obviously accept things get moved absent mindedly, I absolutely do not believe that's what's happened in this case.

We have a small study where office type stuff is kept, it's the only room in the house that is efficient. I have a dedicated business card/credit card folder where certain bank cards and credit cards are kept (they aren't with the usual day to day ones we use). There is no way this particular card could just have been casually picked up somewhere and deposited on the shelf. (The still missing credit card was a new one got purely to BT with and was also kept separate as it was not intended to be used for purchases.)

As we are still doing stuff to the house (although technically that's not true as I've gone on strike at the moment, lol) a lot of stuff has been binned or boxed and put in the loft, upstairs is practically empty, that's why daughter is using a clothes rail just now. There are no wardrobes or sets of drawers for the t-shirt to have got caught up in, either in the small temporary room she's in now or the larger room she'll be going into once it's decorated. This room has a rail and a blow up bed in it. That's it. There really are no places where it could just have been lying, without being seen.

We have to be quite strict about clothes lying around because of the sanding dust that goes through the house so everything is either hung up or folded and put into an ironing basket.

The only place the t-shirt could have gone accidentally would be my eldest's room, but OH and I gutted that room (son has a habit of hoarding 'bits' - last time was empty plastic bottles, so we literally go through his room including cupboards with a fine tooth comb from time to time) when son was at his Dad's overnight and we didn't find it.

If we lived 'normally' then I might be more accepting of the 'accidental' or absent minded' theories, but as it stands I firmly believe there is no way these items could have been overlooked for weeks whilst being hunted for.

All boys do this. It's something about their eyes, they don't really LOOK with them, you know! :rotfl:
