How much should I expect car insurance to be?

I am trying to weigh up if it is worth learning to drive.

Could someone tell me roughly how much car insurance would be? I'm 24 and would be driving my mums car, 1 year old corsa.

Why not just ask your mum to call her insurance company and ask what it would cost to add you as a named driver rather than guessing?
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Do an online quote using fake names, and don't put in the registration, just select "don't know registration number" use a fake email address, and and use a neighbours address.

Quote using a few insurers like tesco, admiral, nationwide

That is the only advice the OP needs except to also get her Mum to ask what the premium will be once the OP passes her test. Premiums can go up once the inexperienced driver is not being supervised.

It could be £100, or it could even be £20,000. No one can answer that question except the insurance companies.

  • Ok, thanks for the replies everyone. Though I am kinda confused, how could there be such a big difference in prices?

I dont want to ask my mum, she might take this as a hint that I want to learn to drive, and I'm not sure if I do. Shes been on at me for years, and if I bring it up it'll start the whole why dont you get some lessons again.

Why would any of that be necessary?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Because they spam you to hell. I've put my real e-mail address on comparison websites and had to unsubscribe from the crap that they sent each week.

Easier putting a false e-mail address in until you're actually ready to purchase a policy.

Because different insurance companies 'prefer' different types of risk. The ones that are cheap for you 'like' your risk profile, the more expensive ones don't so give an uncompetitive quote. Its just why anything is cheaper at different places really. Milk might be cheaper at tesco than sainsburys, or whatever...

From what you say you want to be a named driver on your mother's policy not take a policy of your own so you can't get a sensible answer to the cost without her asking.

As you are 24 and not 12 you really ought to be able to deal with your mother as an adult.
  • no. Shes getting a new car next year. so the car would be mine, if i wanted it which is why i am asking
