ok, I am about to leave work and am out all evening, but I will hopefully respond more fully in the morning.....

I am sure that others who visit this thread will be able to help as well.

First things first - don't panic. As the great man himself says, there is no debt problem that is too big to solve :money:

Next, get a copy of your credit file - sign up to quidco if you haven't already done so, go to creditexpert and sign up for their free 30 day trial...it takes a couple of days to activate, so the sooner you get it, the sooner you can see what it says, and the sooner you can start working on it.

Re OH debt - I am not an expert on statute barred stuff, but if it is more than 6 years since he last acknowledged the debt, then it may be that there is something he can do to avoid paying it. Like I say, it is not something I know much about, but if you look on the main DFW board, there will be someone who can definitely point you in the right direction of template letters etc.

How much do you owe on your credit card? Write to Barclays and tell them that you do NOT want them to put up the credit limit any more. Presumably you are spending the "new" limit when it is given to you? If you are not spending the new limit, ask them to reduce the limit you have to one that is just above the amount you owe. This will help your credit file, and will also take away any temptation.

British Gas - no experience of these, personally, but ask to agree a payment plan if you haven't already done so. They will ask you lots of questions re your finances, so the more information you have available to you the better - it would be worth doing the SOA on the makesenseofcards site that I believe you can find on the DFW board - top of the board is a "help for newbies" thread which will contain the link.

Sorry to dash and run, but hopefully the great and the good of DFW will step in with some ideas for you!

    Im going home too :)

I have had my creidt file before, from credit expert and i couldnt actualyl see the names of credit files or accounts that i have, i dont know what im looking for?

Barclays good idea, really i keep it there in the event that i ever urgrently need it, thoughi hope not :( but nope, trying not to spend it :)

As for B. Gas, I have set up a payment plan, but i really feel they are taking me for a ride, £192 96 usage 96 debt :(

Ohh, OGH debt i think dates from 2006, which isnt 6 years and we are awaiting bank statements, they say he took out a loan to pay the debt then didnt pay the loan 'and have no record of an agreement being made'

Thank you i just need to take the time out to figure it all out, really bringing me down at the moment, seem to be loosing so much money!!

Well at least I can help with this :)

When you are on any thread/diary etc scroll up towards the top of the page. On the green tool bar about 1/3 of the way down is USER CP. Click on this and on the left hand side will appear some options, including Edit Signature. Click there & write away :)

Good luck with that, and more importantly your debt journey.

    Oh, and welcome

    Hi MandyMoo

Welcome :T Hypno has given you great advice already (she always does, we think she is fab :D) but this is one of the threads that she mentioned:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/107280

It contains the link to the SOA Calculator (Statement of Affairs). Be really honest with your spending when you do it and try to remember everything you spend however insignificant, the odd coffee on the way to work or weekly magazines soon mount up!

Once you have done it there is a button to press to format it for MSE. You can then start a new thread of your own and other members will be able to comment on it and help to show you the areas you can improve on. Don't be scared, we are a friendly bunch and many are in exactly the same boat as you.

The hardest thing is owning up to having a problem and you have done that bit already :)

Good morning - hope you are all having a good weekend.

As you can guess from the timing of this post, it is a ski day.....shortly to be heading to an indoor snow slope, on what is supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year........something is not quite right here!

So, hope you all have a good day, preferably in the sunshine rather than in the snow.....x

Enjoy the skiing, but don't feel that you are missing out as there's nothing doing in the good weather department here. ;)
