My house is in need of a spring clean too, I have been putting it off but I am still decluttering at the moment. Only four more boxes left in my front room to go through:eek: However that has come down from about ten!!!! Still. getting there slowly:D

Bleurgh, feel as though I have been hit by a truck today. Hopefully it is just the hayfever, and will therefore reduce as the antihistimines kick in :(

Moneywise, the car is back in today to have the rest of the work done that it needs, so that will be a chunk of cash gone, but then it will hopefully be sorted for the next year.....so money well spent.

Jamie, I aim to do some more of the deep clean when I get home from work - it really does make a difference!

Housework seems so much easier for you in this new house, it it just the style of the house, or because you had a mammoth chuck out before you moved?

My yukk job that I keep putting off is cleaning the deep fat fryer. Really should work a system out for it.

  • Ooooooo Hollister! I don't own any but i love the stuff!

I've been watching a few of the "love the place your in" programs while do the ironing and there was one the other day where it was so cluttering and a real mix of furniture etc. She told the designer she had put it all in the bin or in storage and the rooms they did were beautiful, calm and uncluttered. I just had to laugh when he went into the study to get a mirror for the living room, it looked like my loft . She had hidden lots of junk from him :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

Partly both of those things, but mainly I think because I am in the right "place". I was obviously so unhappy in the last place for so many reasons, debt, relationship, losing Dad, etc, that really, I just couldn't manage the housework as well. Coupled with the fact that there were always extra jobs to be worked on, whether proper second jobs, or mystery shops etc, and that whittled away the time further so that housework became even less of a priority. And of course no one else in the house seemed bothered enough to do it, so there was also an element of "so why should I?" from me too.

Now, it is just me, and I like a tidy house, I love my space that I have, and when it hints at getting cluttered it starts to bother me in a way I have no wish to return to! So I just get on with it - I quite enjoy it in a daft way, because I am doing it for "me" not because anyone else CBA to do it, if that makes sense!

DD is the same - her old bedroom was as much of a state as the rest of the house was - her new bedroom is of showhouse standard and she keeps it very clean and tidy without any need for even the hint of a [STRIKE]nag[/STRIKE] reminder. Sadly DS's room cannot be included in the same description, but one room out of the whole house, and that being a room on the top floor so out of my way, is not so bad really!

And of course, because it is now a very "social" house, with friends of mine popping by for a coffee or a glass of wine (or two), and friends of the children coming round, it is far less embarrassing than the CHAOS house that we had before, and that in itself is an incentive.

Oh, and you never know when Mr Depp may ring the doorbell, so.......:D

I rarely buy anything full price from there, but at the back of our store they have a huge huge clearance area - it is not many weeks before stuff from the main store finds its way to the back at greatly reduced prices.

At the weekend I bought 5 t-shirts of various styles for myself and DS, some of them casual, some of them beautiful enough to wear on a night out.....and spent a total of less than £55 - for Hollister that is pretty darned good!

  • I've only been in the one in Sheffield, no hint of a discount there. if I come over to see my neice we might have to have a little trip into the city :).

My grandparents got a card from the Queen for 60 years of marriage and DH took a photo of the card so it looked like she had sat for a proper photo with him!

excellent ticket prices. Ahem....... are you going to London or Liverpool to see them?

I have the inverse (?) problem re clutter and CHAOS. My last house was a minimal haven. I moved into OHs house and it was full of clutter to begin with, add in the bits that I really want to keep but nowhere to store them and I have CHAOS. It is so true about it affecting the state of mind. I cant think straight most of the time and get really fed up when trying to find anything hence I now live in jeans and tshirts because it is just too much trouble to find my nice clothes. I know this will only change if, and when, we move on. I aim to do this as soon as possible. In the meantime I guess I will just have to have coping mechanisms.

We are seeing them in London.....

The state of my house certainly does have an impact on the state of my mind, and then it becomes a bit of a vicious circle. Obviously readers of my diaries of old will know just how much I have tried, and failed, to keep on top of things in the past, trying everything from flylady to threatening to get a skip in and start again!

My house is certainly not immaculate - I am not sure that I would want it to be, entirely, but it is no longer the sort of place I hide when people come to the door!

It does go hand in hand with the discovery of "me" too, and the effort that I now put into my own appearance - previously, I would have pulled on some shapeless old joggers and a sweatshirt on a weekend where I have nothing planned - now, because I feel so much better when I do so, I make sure my hair is done, makeup (albeit minimal) is on, and that my clothes look good. As a result, my general feel good factor is waaaay higher than it used to be, and so therefore I want to be in good surroundings too, if that makes sense!
