    Well, yes.....

She was doing A levels at 6th form.....went back in September for her 2nd year and hated it.

So she switched colleges, switched courses, and started a 2 year catering and hospitality course. This is the same course that DS is very much looking forward to starting in September, being now in his second year of the GCSE equivalent of it.

However, it was very soon apparent that she hated this too. So it was a case of either putting up with it, as it was now too late to change course again, or leaving and finding an apprenticeship or a proper job.

So, she got out there, and found a job, and happily told college that she is not going back, as it is obviously not for her at this moment in time, for whatever reason.

What happens next is anyone's guess, of course!!

She's got a lot of get up and go, your DD, being *your* DD :) she'll do great. One of my best friends had a daughter who left school at 16, and wasn't the most balanced of teenagers .... ten years later, she's an Operations Manager in the City, living in Docklands .... life is funny :)

Good on your DD for knowing what she doesnt want to do. Too often we all drift through life thinking I dont want to do this but I have to and become more and more miserable and trapped. She is going to go far I reckon.

Well, I would be a hypocrite if I made her do differently. I left 6th form in the February of my second year. Didn't seem to do me any harm :D

You can have all the education and qualifications in the world, but if you have the wrong attitude to work, it isn't going to get you what you want, necessarily.

Equally, you can have no qualifications, but the determination to succeed and to work hard, and to accept that mistakes will be made along the way, and you can end up with a fantastic career.

Surely they are better than a skirt when you are bending down at peoples feet all day?

Or are they very short shorts?

They were short shorts on em......... how shall I put this........ chunky legs is the kindest I can think of :o

Totally agree Hypno. I couldnt stay on at school, thought it was the end of the world but got on with it anyway. Many years later I have a much better, higher grade job than any of the my friends who went to Uni. Life is so much more about what you make of it than education. After all the most succesful entrepreneurs in life were usually out of school early.

    Morning all!

It is mid November - that means it is a week til payday, and 2 weeks until my annual 1st December MSE New Year thing that I do.

This time last year, I was still very much in the unknown - I hadn't moved, I didn't know how much I needed to spend, I hadn't developed that thing I have come to know and love so much which is called "a social life", and I hadn't discovered Dior :rotfl:

So, this year, I think I have pretty much got an idea of how much I need for the various elements of my life. I know what my fixed costs are, I more or less know what I am spending on fun things, and I know what I am and am not prepared to give up when things get tight.

Therefore, these next couple of weeks are going to include brutal exercises in budgets. I want to be able to hit the next 12 months with the knowledge that I can afford to sustain my lifestyle, and that of my children, without worry.

This sounds fab, but the reality is, that I do only have so much money to go round. I do not get a great deal in the way of support from elsewhere. The children are at that point where things like child benefit are actually disappearing, so there is a real need to work on this. My mortgage is still on a fixed rate but that ends in summer 2013, which in reality is not that far away, and of course I need to ensure I am in a good position for the re-mortgage that I will invariably want to look for at that time.

So.....payday is next Wednesday. Once that is in, no spreadsheet will be left unturned!

    You have been warned :rotfl:
